I'm gonna see them in 8 days...I hope the show will be as good as yours  It will take place in a little island, I think it's gonna be magic :D

It probably will be they are a great live band, i would have prefered them to play more of the first album though. but it was just great, and he said that we were a really good audience, he finished a song and goes, "god you dont get many audiences as good as this man!!"

Ok your picking on my friend Kaddy now.

Coldplay were great when they released Paracutes back in 2000. They were fresh and they were different and they had something to add. Which is what made them so good. Their popularity grew and they had a second album which was even more succesful. The same thing basically but the second album had more sing along anthems in it. Yet they have now shown that they can not get away from the style that they use. The same sound the same phrasing of words. In-fact there is not much difference. Its like "AROBTTH" all over again with different lyrics that mean the same thing. The music never changes and they have shown that they are scared of experimentation. Now until they show some originality they will satr a second rate band.

And thus that basically means that Coldplay are currently shite.

I agree to an extent. X&Y has been referred to as "their third debut album" because of how little variation there has been. I think Chris Martin might be a formula songwriter, where he has a set standard for writing a "song" and he plugs in different words and notes into the same structure. That's not something I'm going to deny.

However, I still adore the sound they started out with and the sound they've maintained, so while their lack of variation is a lot less exciting, it is still very much enjoyable for me. But that's just me personally, and I can totally understand why some people are sick of Coldplay by now. I just...love their sound. So more songs with that same sound are not much of a disappointment for me.

"We never change, do we?
No, no...
We never learn, do we?"

Coldplay are brilliant and they were amazing at Live 8 and Glastonbury. I can't stop playing X & Y and I particulary love Square One, White Shadows, Fix You, Talk, Speed Of Sound, A Message and 'Til Kingdom come. I would have loved to seen them live especially with Richard Ashcroft.

X&Y is one of the worst albums I've ever listened to. Especially with Chris' voice, he seems so terribly undecisive as to what he wants it to sound like. That and half of it sounding like a re-hashed Rush of Blood.

Coldplay are not brilliant.

They are one of the most popular bands around at the moment. However popularity does not mirror brilliance. Coldplay cant come up with a new sound if it hit them in the face.

And that is the main flaw with coldplay. And imo that flaw makes them a crap uninspiring band.

same on both points, they were great in bolton, i think theyd be better in an arena but i know that is just a fucking rip off, seeing as i saw muse in the same venue for £15, and it had far more money spent on it than the last coldplay show i went to

I want to see coldplay live. To me they appear to be a studio band. I would like to see if they can cut it live. They could do with more originality if you know what i mean. A lot of their songs are good but they always follow the generic Coldplay style. If they do not change by their next album this generic style is gonna kill them.

Still they are a very good band. And if they can create something new and original by their next album...Then their claim of being one of the worlds greatest bands would have some credit...The only question is.

If they can...when they gonna do it? When they gonna shock us? When they gonna show that they can change their sound?

Ok thats several questions. But as someone who admires the stuff they have done. I feel the need for these questions to be answered. Otherwise this great band is going to sink like the Titanic.

have you seen them live allready?
i saw them at the werchter festival a couple of years ago and they were great!!! when i think about the gig i still feel the atmosphere that was there then... and it was an open air gig that's always less good then in a club

Hi everybody!!

Yesterday, I went to Coldplay's concert!! THAT WAS SO GREAT!!!!

They began singing "Square One", to excit the public!! After, they sang "Troubles" and thas was funny for this song because Chris did a mistake when he played piano and he said "Oh shit! I'm sorry, that's not professional, I start again!" and that was funny because he was embarrassed!
When they played "In My Place", Chris ran until the back of the hall to sing near the spectators who were in the back!

During all the concert, Chris was excited!! He went everywere, he was untenable!

I think, the greatest moment of the evening was when all the band sang together "Fix You". At this moment, I realised that music was for them their passion and that they played for love for music... during this song, there was a real complicity and harmony between the members of the band and the public.. they played really for the love of music!

Now the concert is finished, it passed to fast!! But now the only thing I want to do is buy another ticket to see them again!!

COLDPLAY FOREVER!

'Til' Kingdom Come'

Why do I even bother liking Coldplay? They only make me want to cry.

I may be a girl but I'm not one of those that cry at anything. The only "film" I've ever cried at was Farenheit 9/11 & I think that's pretty understandable as it is real life. And I wouldn't be caught dead watching Bridget Jones' bloody diary.

But Coldplay make me cry.

And all the people I know don't like them. They are my shameful secret. I don't think I'll ever get to see them live because no one will come with me. The closest I'm gonna get is seeing one of their support bands Morning Runner in Feb.

Just as he was starting he said that he forgot the lyrics (again...) and just kept playing the intro which was similar to Till Kingdom Come and then he went into the lyrics and then slowly the audience realised what it was. That was a highlight of the evening, didn't think they would do that song.

Chris Martin ended running to the far end of the arena, running up the stairs and climbing into one of the private boxes and reaching and touching someone's hand in the upper tier.

i probably would have gone for standing myself but i went with my dad who's got a bit of a dodgy hip so i thought seating would be best.
yeah, i really enjoyed it... i'm not really a huge fan of theirs but they was really good, i'll probably start listening to them more now.

i thought that was really good when he ran to the back of the arena and held that persons had on the upper-tier
if you'd have told that person, "Chris Martin is going to hold your hand during the gig tonight"
imagine how hard they'd slap you.

hey, you'll have to do a scan of that setlist, would be cool to see

ok i will, ive actually realised its chris' footprint on it, which is ace. and yeh i thought that was great how he gave some people in shitty seats the chance to get closer to him that even the stadning people could, although he was like 10cm in front of me when he jumped of the stage

Massive Coldplay fan here..

I actually heard of Muse through Coldplay, since Chris has talked about how Muse inspired a couple of their songs in their A Rush of Blood to the Head album so after years of procrastination, I finally checked Muse out and I cannottttt believe what I've been missing! Already have all the albums and working on the dvd boxsets!

You guys should definitely check out Coldplay's first recording called Ode to Deodorant, it's crazy! Chris barely sounds like himself (before singing lessons) and they were still called "The Coldplay" then, even!

It was recorded in 1998 and was specificially made for various A&R people to get them a record deal.

it got taken out of context, they are taking a break from touring to spend time with families, and to write new, better (hopefully much better from the biggest dissapointment that was X&Y) but are not spliting. that is a definate. (Debs Wild said so {she is friends with Coldplay})

ahhjhhhhhahsflhas;dklhfalsdh. yeah.

i touched christ martin.

his body was pressed all over mine and...aaaghr. mm. it was good.

he ran into the audience during one of the songs and i was at the bottom with a friend of mine who'd gotten pit tickets whereas i had gotten balcony tickets. nnnnnadfpsd. god it was perfect. twas the first lucky thing that has ever happened to me. but then i had to go to my actual seat, which wasn't so bad. i could still see his face and i took some pretty fantastic pictures.

i took video clips as well, but im still pissed off at myself for only takign 15-20 second clips of a few songs instead of filming the entire performance [i had thought i didnt have enough space on my camera to film the whole thing so i had to cut them short] and then it turned out i had plenty of space left. :indiff: :(

i've got about 15 mini-videos though.

need to upload them soon. when i do, i'll post 'em here.

What is the story between the two versions of Coldplay's 'Talk'?

I had put it on my MP3 player a long time ago, and recently putting the full CD on it, I realized they were two completely different versions! The lyrics and drums are radically different, and the overall song is much quiter on the CD. But the single has different lyrics and a more upbeat drum part.

Can anyone explain this to me?

ive seen coldplay 4 times now......once a few years back and three times this year in july. they played 2 shows and i paid for the first ticket...was front row, near jonny...totally awesome. then the next two nights my friend and i snuck in...it was nice and easy. but we did miss the first few songs waiting for the security guy to walk off.

MAN, how i loved coldplay.

except this album was kinda...to me, a let down. but oh, on the second night they played kylie's can't get you out of my mind (or head?). hilarious.

Man, I have to vent about this! Normally I don't go around stating I think a band sucks because seriously that's just opinion. Other people may or may not share it, but why spread unnecessary negativity?

With that said it bothers me until NO END that Coldplay covered the Killers sucky-ass song "When You Where Young". WHY?!

Why would Chris Martin do something so stupid and then have the nerve to call the Killers a "great" band?! Is someone paying him?! Or could it be that Coldplay hasn't done anything good since "Parachutes" or the as one Coldplay hater once said to me "Parachutes...the best cover album of all time!"

As this point I want Chris Martin, Moby, Bono and that guy from Razorlight and a few others just to shut the fuck up and go away... take the Killers with you!

And this is not back pedaling. I LIKE a few Killers songs and I LOVE a few Coldplay songs. But these bitches and their egos, I'll also mention all the paid-off, on the staff "music" journalist that claim they are the 2nd coming and the saviors of rock can piss off! They just need to stop! Either make a record good enough to back up all those superlatives that are thrown around by the fans, the press and the bands themselves or STOP! Re-group and try it again in a few years.

And really, is it all that much trouble just to say an album is decent... why do we now feel the need to make average bands with slightly better than average album releases rock stars and brilliant musicians? They are not!

OK, end rant here before I get really nasty.

I guess I have to disagree with you on this one. I don't really see a similarity between the two. Coldplay is good, I like them, but musically Radiohead is so much better and have a completely different style. Where is the link between any song on Kid A/Amnesiac and any Coldplay song? I just don't see it. Maybe parts of the The Bends, but that album is from 1995 ...

Clunge
02-12-2006, 12:06 PM
Radiohead's acoustic feel and Coldplay's just seem very similar to me, I can't really put a finger on why, Chris Martin drags his notes out like Thom Yorke does too.

Max

I think most of Parachutes sort of tries to emulate the acoustic-type songs on The Bends. After that though, they kind of went into their own in my opinion.

At first I thought you were kidding. But there has been a lot of comparison to Radiohead and the first time heard that I didn't hear it as much but now I do.

Let's put it this way...Coldplay is so far up Radiohead's ass it's embarrassing...for them.

No, it's true. Chris Martin has followed Radiohead's footsteps from the start from his "Thom Yorke" vocal styling to becoming a vegetarian to joining the Fair Trade movement. It's actually so cute the way Chris Martin pines after Radiohead every time someone acts him about the comparison it's almost endearing.

I think I find his Killers comment annoying because I believe the Killers to be a decent band...but great...not at the moment.

Muse_Brownie

"Parachutes...the best cover album of all time!"

As far as that comment, I forgot to put what band they ripped the most and it's not Radiohead. People think it's that band that sings "Lips like sugar kisses..." The name is escaping me although I saw them in concert earlier this year.

The super-producer will help out on their fourth album

Timbaland has revealed that he is to work with Coldplay on their fourth album.

The super-producer revealed that he is coming to the UK in April to meet with the band, whom he is known to be a big fan of.

Speaking about his production method of not having a preconceived idea of what the sound will be, Timbaland told the US edition of GQ: "I try to get into their heads, see what they're thinking about. I just try to figure out how they are feeling. And if they are feeling a certain way, I go by that. It's more about everyday life - then it (should) be about music."

As previously reported the band are also working with Brian Eno on the follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' at their own purpose-built studio in north London.
