if there's already a thread like this i'm sorry. i searched, i swear.

i got the hullabaloo dvd from hmv.co.uk a couple of weeks ago and tried to play it in my roomate's ps2 console up at school. that didn't work so i figured it was the fault of megan's POS playstation. when i came home last week i tried it in our family's dvd player and it said something about how the disc wasn't readable. has anyone else experienced similar problems or did i just get a faulty disc set? damn technology

Aren't UK/European DVDs PAL format and American DVDs NTSC format? Maybe that's the problem. PAL DVDs don't work in an NTSC machine. Or something like that, anyway!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the dvd in itself. Your copy can only work on a multi-sytem dvd player because dvds in Europe are region 2 while those in the US are region 1 so be very careful when you buys dvds, video games or vhs tapes abroad.

I got my copy of Hullabaloo in New Zealand and it's in region 0, which works on some US dvd players (not mine unfortunately!) but it works fine on computers.

PAL doesn't work in NTSC machines.
NTSC works in black and white on PAL machines.

Or something similar.

Hullabaloo was never released in Region 1, and if your PS2 was purchased in North America you SOL.

I'm coming from Canada and I've got a copy of Hullabaloo. I can only watch it on my DVD-ROM because my DVD-ROM is NOT region specific.

i think its a great dvd of a great gig of the one of the greatest live acts on the planet today BUT, the speedy camera gets annoying, it would have been better if the camera had stayed on views for longer as when you see muse live in person u are amazed to be stood where u n be amazed by how well they fill the stage and move around etc, the dvd gets annoying cuz it only stays on one camera angle for a second or so before going somewhere really abstract like flying around the ceiling or up matts nose or something, im not against it doing that, its quite kl in fact, i juz wish that if they were to bring another dvd out they'd calm the camera angle movement down abit so i dont feel so dizzy from motion sickness

I thought the DVD was awesome. I watched it all the way through and it got me listening to some songs that I hadn't listened to for ages. The DVD sounds great through surround sound (dolby digital 5.1) and I find the speedy camera movements add to the energy of the songs. It is a bit annoying when the screen splits into 3 small pictures that you can hardly see. But Hullabaloo is a great live performance. Just out of interest, does anyone now if there is going to be a DVD from the most recent tour? (probably been asked and answered a million times but I cant be arsed to search)

Yeh! I loved the Hullabaloo dvd, it was awsum. Though sometimes you can't hear a bloody word Matt says coz he mumbles so much, I had to play it about three times over to hear sum of the stuff Matt's saying.
And when he says something before playing Unintended, I first thought he said something in French, coz you can hardly hear what he's saying. I was like, "Wow, Matt speaks French?" hehe, turns out he actually says: I haven't played this song in fucking ages. My mom pointed it out to me when I was listening to the dvd at top volume :p

And why should Muse stick to the rules? And who said a band should release 5 studio albums before making a live album? That's just rubbish.

Although perhaps some bands need more time to improve their skills as musicians...

Anyone know enough about Amsterdam to make any suggestions?? Also...is there any other DVDs that muse have released that i could also find there?

well i suspect muse are somewhat bigger in amsterdam than they r in america so u shud have betta luck in finding the bugger, if not buy online! other dvds released are all single ones, theres a bliss one, time is running out and hysteria, and a bonus one on absolution. u mite struggle to find them all really.

Thought I'd start this to get some opinions. Generally I prefer the live rock songs cos they are more gutsy! Heres my view but please lots of ppl say what u think!
Dead star - live
Microcuts - live
Citizen Erased - live
Sunburn - album
Showbiz - live
Megalomania - live
Uno - live
Screenager - undecided... both are so different
Feeling good - probably live, although this is my fave clip
Space dementia - live
In your world - live
Muscle museum - live
Cave - live
New born - album
Hyper music - album
Agitated - live
Unintended - album
Plug in baby - live
Bliss - album though matt is extremely adorable when he trashes their stuff
There you go! Also does anyone know why dark shines was left off the dvd but put on the cd?

Bellamy_rulz

Dead star - live / album (i love the energy live)
Microcuts - album (when its live its harder to understand)
Citizen Erased - live
Sunburn - album
Showbiz - live / album
Megalomania - live
Uno - live
Screenager - live (the version of it as razor blades OMG!)
Feeling good - FAVE CLIP 2! live
Space dementia - live (the piano live!)
In your world - live
Muscle museum - live
Cave - album
New born - album / live
Hyper music - album
Agitated - live
Unintended - live - its so beautiful with the lights!
Plug in baby - album
Bliss - LIVE! i love it how they just play the chords softly and then all of a sudden, BANG! straight into the scales - AMAZING! LOTS OF ENERGY! but the album version is good cos it all "blends"

I THINK THAT ANYWAY U PLAY THESE SONGS THEY CANNOT SOUND BAD, (except for falling down . . . . . . . AHHHHHHHHH!)

Auntie Helen

I prefer listening the the studio recordings of most of these songs. The live ones are great but the studio ones are even better.

Anyone know how much work they had to do on the Hullabaloo songs? In the Maida Vale live tracks there are some bum notes and his singing occasionally departs from being in tune and this surprised me, having heard Hullabaloo. Or was he just having an off day then?

Bellamy_rulz

what? i dont understand - hullabaloo sounded great, when they sing live on tv it sounds off sometimes - but yeah is that what u meant?Yes it is really. On the Hullabaloo DVD the total sound is excellent. Now I know this was mastered and all the rest of it, but it doesn't sound as if Bellamy's voice has been put through Pro-Tools.

Although I suppose they recorded it over two nights and played most of the tracks at each so they had the opportunity to use the better of each one...

Bellamy_rulz
05-04-2004, 07:23 AM
i dont think that they would've cheated his voice, i think that maybe he had a great night cos i really dont hear any bum notes, he just doesnt finish all of them. i have the hysteria dvd and their performance on mtv wasnt that great either . . . so i dunno

I hate this song on the album, but could listen to it all day live- I love the live version. 'Cave' live is probably one of my favorite songs ever.

No, but get yourself a cheap APEX DVD player that's region free or find anything region free (I use my XBOX) because it's damn worth it.

Well...regardless what you buy, you can just pop it into your PC DVD-ROM and it will play which ever region the DVD originates from. Simple.

That all depends on what region you have your DVD player software set to.
Most will only allow you to change it 5 times.

You actually set your hardware so you can't change a thing after it's configured. I guess I'll just have to get another one and configure it to region 1. Too much money!

I prefer the studio version of Space Dementia, but I'm not sure why. And I love the live version of Citizen Erased, largely because of the class drum bit at the beginning, and people clapping in time to the slow bit at the end. I think Dead Star is better live too, but the live performance of In Your World doesn't have the class transition between piano and guitar, so I prefer the studio version of that. Otherwise, not too bothered.

Deadstar - i think the live one is better, because the verse on the albu version is too random i think...
Microcuts - Live
Citizen Erased - Live
Sunburn - i hate the guitar version, at wembley when i saw them, matt played on the piano and it was brillian
Showbiz - live
Megalomania - Live
Uno - live
Screenager - dont really care about this song because i dont like it...
Feeling good - both
Space dementia - Live
In your world - Live - its much faster and has more adrenaline
Muscle museum - live
Cave - live
New born - live-i prefer the different piano and solo
Hyper music - album, its always way too distorted live, sounds better with more clean guitar
Agitated - live
Unintended - this is a beautiful song - live is better i think
Plug in baby - live
Bliss - live is brilliant, because of the arpeggios he plays at the beginning and middle

i think most of the time the song is worse live is when matt is obsessed with having some huge reverb or distortion on his voice , which muffles it and doesnt sounds as good, or because of some ambitious thing (like excessive hammering and mucking around instead of playing the song properly, which is good, just if it isnt overdone) that ruins a particular guitar bit - like the end of bliss. Hysteria live has some kind of delay on the first solo, which blends it all together, and ruins a brilliant song... its always because matt just takes it a bit too far, but most of the time he doesnt and thats why muse rock so much. amen.

More or less everything live. I was going to say album for Newborn, but I like the way when the riff's about to kick in, everyone's poised to mosh, and it seems like he draws it out a bit more, just to tease everyone... Could have been my imagination, but there you are. :p

I like the way Chris's backing "Yeah-eh!" on Deadstar is louder live too.

I love newborn live but I reckon the contrast between the soft piano and loud grungy guitar is more powerful on the album. Chris needs to be way louder esp. when matt is screaming, u can hardly hear him. Deadstar on the album is rocking but I still prefer live, just.

One of the main reasons why I love muse so much is because of Bellamy's piano playing. This, however, can sometimes suffer during a live show. For example, Cave is my fav track, yet in Hallabaloo he didn't play the piano bit on the piano... and I hated it. On the contrast though, Megalomania sounds so much better live because the piano playing is so much more obvious/louder/better.

I miss Chris's cool "slap nylon" intro in the live Showbiz- but I think the guitar solo sounds better live because of the echoey amplification.

I just checked on amazon.com and ebay.com and neither have Hullabaloo. I'm pretty sure it's region free so you could but it from ebay.co.uk and have the seller post it to you in America. It's an awesome DVD, a great performance and amazing DTS sound so you should definately buy it.

Hundred Reasons SUCK.

Muse did a gig in Leicester?

Lol! How did you miss that one then? I was there, November 1st 2001, top quality. Walked through the doors and Deftones were playing over the PA too which was cool. It's really strange thinking back to those gigs, and the differences between now and then. Muse's profile is huge now, it was big then as it was obviously post-OOS, but it' gone to a new level. Put it this way, can't see myself standing outside the De Montfort Hall or Brum academy to see Muse again! Happy days.........

And for the record I thought HR were class that night, but I must admit their new album from what I have heard is crap, and Colin Doran's voice has deteriorated from 'edgy and acceptable' to 'absolutely appalling, and above all a complete embarassment'. I think HR have blown it to be honest, Ideas above... gave them a good platform to really hit it big, but this album hasn't delivered. They could've been massive, but I think they have blown it.

cd wow (www.cdwow.com) and amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) both do it. I know amazon goes international but it might be a wee bit pricey. I think the DVD itself is region free, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Minneapolis Muse

I had the same problem here in America. I tried Amazon but every import I tried to order has never come through, with the exception of Origin of Symmetry. I finally found the Hullaballoo CD and DVD through the link on this website to HMV. The direct link is: http://www2.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=285;5;-1;-1&sku=554184

They do ship to Canada and it arrived within 6 days. I then couldn't play it with my DVD player. While the DVD is region free, you do need a PAL compatible television, and ours here are NTSC. So I found a modified DVD player on ebay that allows me to play PAL DVD's on NTSC TV's. A lot of work, but worth it. Good luck. I needed the DVD to tide me over until they come here in November!

Yeah, the Parental Advisory thing is because of the piercings and also because of Muse buying mushrooms, I think.

Btw, Matt mucked up in Dead Star in Hullabaloo. After the solo with the pitch shifter, he forgot to put distortion, and that made the guitar sound crappy.

Well to me the very best (and most insane) i ve seen (out from the Lyon s one i ve been to in 2001 which will never be beaten by anything on earth) would have to be the Tokyo s one from July 2001 .

The set list is terrific (darkshines, fillip anyone ?), the crowd is the most insane i ve ever seen (bouncing the WHOLE gig without stopping at all) and the band is on top notch form with the best live renditions of OOS Songs (hyper music, new born with a beautiful guitar s solo , citizen ect)

And that bit where its all in a red hue, and Matt bursts open a bottle of champers on the floor, ahem- provocatively and then slaps Dom on the ass with a cushion before pouring champagne all over the floor and collapsing. I hope someone else can recall this!
