I just wanted to know how many SA Musers there are here! I haven't met anyone in SA who knows them, let alone like or love them.

Ocean5, my US MuseMom, mentioned to Matt on Friday(15 April '05) at the MeetAndGreet after their Philly show, that one of their biggest fan's are from South Africa, and he pulled his face in disbelieve and said *really*!!!

Hiya

Ja ek is van Suid-Africa. (AFrikaans)

Yeah, good to see other SAers on the forum.

Yes, i love Muse. In fact, i got to see them live in concert at their headlining in London, Earls Court in Dec 2004. I must say that i must have been Euphoric for at least a week. Im missing it all the time. At least i got the CD's in London for "spot-goedkoop" (if you know what I mean) :D

I can't believe its only you and me................shocking.

I was in London in Dec2003 and Jan2004, and of course, with my luck, they weren't playing while I was there.

I also wasn't so lucky at getting all their CD's. I got Absolution without a problem, but had to order Showbiz, Hullabaloo, and OOS vir 'n plaas se prys. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Hullabaloo DVD just last week, but I payed nearly R400 for it, but it's worty every last cent.

Ocean5 sent me three of their live CDs all the way from New Jersey, got them on Friday! She is also sending me a signed t-shirt and poster from their Philly show. I'm so excited!!!!!!

Lekker dag!

I also bought a Tour T-shirt while i was at the concert. Happy Days.

OoS = 6 pounds
Absolution = 7 pounds

Bargain that was!

I also tend to like stuff like Interpol and Modest Mouse. It kinda sounds like Snow Patrol. Ive also ben known to like Razorlight. Very cool music.

You were lucky! I had my Hullabaloo DVD with me today when I went to campus, and this one girl ran up to me and asked where I got it. I had a Muse fan in my class for the last 3 and a half years and didn't even know it :)

It was a bit strage. Have you downloaded all the Muse B-sides from the net yet. There are quite a few good tracks there.

Where in Cape Town are you from? Im from Stellenbosch.

I think there are loads of people in SA who like Muse. They just tend to not stand out.

BTW, has anybody heard THe Arcade Fire? its great. Progressive like Muse.

BTW2: I have seen Muse live. Yes you may now worship the ground I walk on.

I guess you're right. I also don't think they are aware of this MessageBoard's existance, so we wouldn't know how many fans there are out there.

*jealous*
I haven't heard of The Arcade Fire, but if they are half as good as Muse, I'll give them a try. Where are they from?

The Arcade Fire was formed in Canada although most of their musicians are from USA. They really seem great at the moment with their debut "Funeral". One song you should try and get is called "Neighborhood 3 (power cut)". It almost has a Pixies flavour to it with the singers voice which sounds like a combination between Frank Black from Pixies and the guy from Interpol. Another thing which makes them stand out is the vocal duo of the front-people which consist of a man and woman who married insidently.

Anyway Check 'em out.

Also a band to check out is The Mars Volta. Such a amazing band. INcrebily progressive with influences of Freestyle-Jazz, Salsa, Progressive Rock and a mixture of "questionable music". From from the remains of the Prog-Punk phenomonon At The Drive-In, this band is something that wil grab you and not let go. I bought both their cds in a impulsive frenzy at CD Wherehouse for R170 each. Expensive seeing as Americans can buy one for $6 over there ( i Checked).

Also I've heard a new song by Coldplay. I generally like everything they've done thus far. Very gentle and melodic. Great stuff.

Yet another band you guys should check out is The Secret Machines. They opened for Muse whe I saw them, and let me tell you, it doesn't get any more Prog than this band. A Texan 3-piece who tend to make music suited more to a 10-man orchestra! Get the song called "First Wave Intact"

Thanx for reading. Im telling you this because as South Africans, we generally don't get any expore to anything remotely interesting, and if its not on MTV then we dont know. That is crap.

We must inlighten ourselfs. There's a whole world of music out there.

Wow, that sounds like fun. What do you do over there?

Well, I left directly after matric, studied in Belgium and now I'm working as a CA in Holland... great fun! My parents still live in Cape Town so I'm in SA about twice a year. When I settle it's probably going to be in Cape Town... no place in the world like it! :)

So what do you guys do? Study? Work?

I've seen Muse twice (to my knowledge). The first time I wasn't a fan AT ALL... I couldn't stand Matt's gasps. They were playing at a festival I went to but I didn't pay much attention to them back then. Luckily last year at the same festival I got the oppotunity to see Muse live again and by then I'd gotten over Matt's gasps. Thank goodness!

Thank you, Secrecy R, thank you! A friend gave me 3 Musica vouchers (he works there), and I have no idea what to get with them. I'll defenitely check them out. I know chances of getting any of the stuff you mentioned at crappy Musica is very slim, but I'll give it a try. MTV is terrible. They play the same stuff over and over and over again.

So what do you guys do? Study? Work?
I'm busy with my honors degree in corporate communication and industrial psychology at the North-West University (Potchefstroom)!

Perticulary in SA.....

Hi everyone. Earlier this week I sent a pm to Tom Kirk to ask if there is any chance of Muse touring SA. This is what he replied...

Re: South Africa
we want to come of course. one day definitely.
no plans as yet but to write a new album. thanks for getting in touch. i do receive other mails from people in south africa saying the same. fingers crossed it won't be too soon.
tom

So, there is hope for us, just not in the very near future. I must say that I think it's great of Tom to take the time to reply to fans.

On another note, one of the MuseMom's, ocean5, sent me a signed Muse T-shirt :D . She had it signed at the Maryland University concert during April. Now I am happy!!!!!

Anywayz, I dont know if they would ever come. Dont think there will be as many people coming as in say the uk that would make it worthwhile for them.

Maybe if they have a free weekend or something..... ;)

Yes, it is Tom from Muse. He is on the boards regularly. I'm also not sure if they'll do a huge tour in SA despite what Tom said. Maybe they can just do a small show?!!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

If you read the Official Matt Bellamy Birtyday Treasure Hunt Thread (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=20157), you would know that we want to put something together for Matt's B'day on the 9th of June.

We are going to make him a birthday book with all our signatures in and birthday wishes. I thought that it would be a good idea to make a page or two that's just from South African's. I offered to put everything together that's from South Africa, so if you would like to participate, please e-mail me your birthday wishes and signature (do it in MS paint or something similar). If you prefer, you can also send it to Loopmusic, you can find her details on the link above.

You can also send me pictures you want included etc. as well as stuff from people you know that love's Muse who are not active on the messageboards.

Please send it to me as soon as possible.

I hope I make sense, I'm in quite a hurry.

Man, there are thousands of huge muse fans in South Africa. I meen... there's a lot more muse fans than Violent Femmes fans. And when the femmes toured in SA, all of their shows were huge and SOLD OUT!!
In the past year or so many(for SA) bands came to SA incl. the offspring, rem, avril lavigne, westlife, k's choice, violent femmes, 50cent, live, black eyed peas, christina aguilera, robbie williams, katie malua, josh groban etc... thats more than in the 50 years before that!!
I Really think that muse must come to sa.
If all those bands i've just metioned can play huge sold out shows, so can muse.
Muse is like one of the best live bands and really should come to South Africa!!!!!!Don't you think?

I was at JHB Interntional this morning and saw a guy wearing a Muse t-shirt. I stalked him and started up a conversation in the que to check in luggage. Muse is huge in SA, no question about it.

When I got home yesterday from my sister's wedding, some bastards had broken into my house and stole just about everything they could carry. Lucky for me they had really bad taste in music and didn't take my Muse CD's, but they took just about everything else in my CD collection - it's a bit weird that they took time to pick and choose CD's.

Hi All

Another JHB MUSE fan! Have been listening to them for about 4 years now and I feel so alone! its great to see there are others out there! I have consoled myself by converting my whole family to listen to them, I cant believe that I walked into look and listen the other day and found the new MUSE CD! With OoS I searched the whole of JHB and and had to eventually order it online! So the only thing thats missing out of my collection is a couple of tickets I wish they would hurry up and get over here! just one show is all I am asking, I would sleep for a week in the queue. maybe we could start a petition or something??

I know many muse lovers, in fact I have turned a few people too... If people would stop being cheap and give the band the money they deserve and buy their cd's maybe they will come to south africa. They'll see lots of cd's being sold here and come here... maybe...

I wonder what the cd sales stats look like here in sunny friggen south africa!

I wanted travel to watch them this year unfortunately I blew all that money on NIN last year... maybe they'll still be touring when I eventually have some money again.

Ive been listening to Muse since 2005. But I didn't really get into them, when a friend gave me a play of Origin of Symmetry+Showbiz. It was awesome! When I was in London in June 2006, I bought BHAR.

Needless to say again, it was awesome. I then got a hand of Absolution (my best album). Muse is without a doubt my favourite band. I also have the Live Absolution Tour DVD.

It would be awesome if Muse would come to South Africa. Most of my friends love Muse!

Cmon Muse! Come to sunny SA (especially Cape Town). You know you really really want to.

*Thinks of something creative to get Muse's attention*.

The Muse that creates
the lingering thoughts
thrives through the rhythms
that makes my soul wrought

with passion, sadness, fear
every emotion up to
losing control of my devotion:
It is time to step up the gear

for Muse would have an epiphany
when they see the sunny skies,
of Cape Town and finish me,
my goal to see Muse live...
live in our times!

//Cmon! Come!

Lekker dag!

The (well, my) Dream Setlist for Newmarket Racecourse:
According to www.musewiki.org/Gigs's (http://www.musewiki.org/Gigs%27s) general setlist trends, unless they REALLY treat us and get at least about a 2 hour time slot at the gig, the odds of them playing this orgasmic playlist are low enough to.. umm.. stir my emotions :(

1. Take a bow
2. Map of the Problematique
3. Sunburn
4. Hysteria
5. New born
6. Time is running out
7. Apocalypse Please
8. Bliss
9. Sing for absolution
10. Plug in Baby
11. Muscle Museum
12. Showbiz (hardly a chance of this *sob*)
13. City of Delusion
14. Hyper Music
15. Endlessly
16. Space Dementia
17. Stockholm Syndrome

But I will dream, wish, and hope... Who agrees this is a KILLER setlist? :) Honestly who needs Knight of Cydonia, Supermassive black hole, or Invincible. Sure, they're great (albeit more commercial) songs, but nothing compared to these...

I got my Golden Circle ticket the day it opened. I feel so special and warm inside.

I don't really mind the setlist as each song kicks mighty ass, I just really really want to see Micro Cuts, but I'll doubt they'll play it.

yeah, Tr00jg, like wtf, I found out today my sister likes Micro Cuts. :O shock.

anyway, a killer set would look something like this:

1. Dead Star
...
8ish. Micro Cuts
...
20. Stockholm Syndrome

dude have you listened to Death From Above 1979? You should.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Muse live at Coke Fest in Joburg lasy year... :D
It really does make me sad to know how few Muse lovers there are here... I guess it's up to us to spread the good word!:)
