You're going! Lucky you! Morrissey is my favourite artist ever, well Smiths are, but...yeah, you get my point! I saw him in Stockholm in 2002 though...bloody class. Is this thread for Smiths too? :) *Puts on Meat is Murder*

slightly bemused
25-03-2004, 05:59 PM
Meeeee....would.

Unfortunately I'm too far.

In fact I hadn't even listened to his stuff till some weeks ago, and it's good stuff just like The Smiths.

Hope you enjoy...I'm sure I don't really need to say it :)

Yeah, best night of my life, we sat in the top row though (hockey arena) very far away, but it was still magic...'There's a light...' in the end :)

Jonny (who i'm going with) was telling me this morning about how he often performs a few Smiths tracks, and that that was one he included alot! *is excited*
We're going to be quite far back: it's at MEN, which is heeeuuuuuuuge-a.

Yeah, I think he always does Smiths material...but his own really comes to life live...drool... :) Meat is murder is really powerful, like a wall of sound. And the way he's carried on to stage at first...ahh...like a Messiah :)

I heard Marr played an acoustic version of Bigmouth when the electricity went out at some of his own gigs...now that I would like to see :)

Really happy for you :)

Oh. Yes. :) Well, it's probably going to be even cooler seeing it's the first gig after the new album, first gig of the tour an'all. (This is a little tour right? Or will he just play Manchester?)

Hehehe.
He's doing about 5 nights worth of touring in LA, but only one in England.
Which makes it even more of an occasion! Plus, Manchester's his home town and it will be his birthday.

I'm going. I'm taking my mate down as it's his 27 birthday the day after.

I've seen him twice before and he's played Smiths' songs both times, if my memory serves me correctly I've seen him play There Is a Light, Suffer Little Children, Meat Is Murder, Hand In Glove, Cemetry Gates and Rusholme Ruffians. He dominates live and his material is soooo much better live than on record.

Go Moz.

He's banned meat vendors from the gig as well, go Moz.

I've just seen the tracklisting for his new album and I have three live versions of songs that are going to be on it, so I'll upload them to Kazaa on monday for any one that wats to here them.

These three

’Irish Blood, English Heart’
’The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores’
’The First Of The Gang To Die’

This Man is a Living Legend

I have 7 of his solo albums and 7 smiths albums (when my loan comes through I will complete the lot of both)

New single is outstanding (Irish Blood, English Heart)

I saw him at Birmingham Academy 18 months ago, he is a genius! Missed out on Glasto tickets so I'm only seeing him at MEN (frickin' seated!) and Reading...

I'm taking lots of money to MEN to but cheap shit outside... mmmm Mozz posters!

"Alma Matters in mind... body and souuul" I love him

*EDIT* my signature doesn't seem to work... and it's Morrissey-ish!

Right, I have the CD with me today so what is the best format to burn them to my hard drive in and waht's the best way to get them to everyone?

I don't actually have Kazaa anymore, I have Soulseek or if someone can tell me how to upload them to a site I'll do that. Suggest away.

Can listening to Viva Hate too much kill you? I feel all funny inside when I hear the refrain of 'Bengali in Platforms'...but it's oh so nice!

Hmm, made a Smiths/Morrissey compilation for a friend of mine (and me), and since I've got nothing better to do, I'll post the songlist here...

Alsatian Cousin
Little Man, What Now
Handsome Devil
Paint A Vulgar Picture
Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference
Still Ill
Pretty Girls Make Graves
Hold On To Your Friends
Hairdresser On Fire
Girlfriend In A Coma
Bengali In Platforms
Spring-Heeled Jim
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
Dial-A-Cliché
This Charming Man
Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself
Speedway
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
I've Changed My Plea To Guilty

Listening right now, the best compilation I've heard in a very long time to be honest :D Yer, I know, it's a bit blasphemic to make CD's like this with such great band(s)...well, well! :D

I'm copy and pasting this from a site where I asked for help:

You need some sort of a webspace that will allow you to upload mp3's and suchlike without thinking you're distrubuting things illegally, or you need to buy you're own webspace, hence what Ste did. Since he uploads all his stuff onto the fakediy or thisisfakediy webspace which he has payed for.

So.. look around for some free webspace hosting and try to upload it there and check if theres any terms and conditions saying no mp3s etc.

A lot of effort.

He did get a bit of his shirt after the gig, which he keeps in his wallet to this day.

I had a joint with Josh and Nick from Queens of the Stoneage and spent about half an hour talking about their old bands with them. That was strange.

He lent into the crowd during Dagenham Dave and it was ripped from his back.

I was waiting outside for a taxi having a smoke and chatting to this guy who'd also gone to the gig when Nick walks out for a joint. I went over and started talking and he invited us back in so we sat talking to him and Josh about Kyuss and the Dwarves while getting stoned.

I went to see Morrissey back in 1993 at Sheffield City Hall (which is now closed for a make over) and I got pushed over, well I am only 5" tall so I had to go and sit down and watch and my friend cut her finger when Mozza threw his tamborine into the crowd and she didn't manage to keep hold of it!

That's a pretty cool setlist..! I miss Alsatian though, he played it in Stockholm...but I guess he has to promote the new album too...

Speaking of that, hell with rituals, I've been walking around with a foolish smile on my face, I even laughed out loud because the album is so ridiculously great!! Resisted the urge to download it, so this is the virgin spin... :)

Hee hee hee I'm so happy! :)

Where abouts were you sitting? I loved how he'd always attempt to touch the hand of people being taken out by the guards and that he listened so avidly to the audience! He was just as funny as I hoped he'd be yet, in all, the whole thing was far better than I even expected.

2 of us where sat in the upper tier to the right hand side of the stage, dunno about everyone else.

We where the only people around us to stand up and dance. 'Twas great fun.

I liked it when he introduced 'The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores' by talking about Britney Spears, and when he was jesting about his age: "I can't believe I'm 29." and "You've made a happy man very old."

Go Moz.

Can listening to Viva Hate too much kill you? I feel all funny inside when I hear the refrain of 'Bengali in Platforms'...but it's oh so nice!

Hmm, made a Smiths/Morrissey compilation for a friend of mine (and me), and since I've got nothing better to do, I'll post the songlist here...

Alsatian Cousin
Little Man, What Now
Handsome Devil
Paint A Vulgar Picture
Such A Little Thing Makes Such A Big Difference
Still Ill
Pretty Girls Make Graves
Hold On To Your Friends
Hairdresser On Fire
Girlfriend In A Coma
Bengali In Platforms
Spring-Heeled Jim
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
Dial-A-Cliché
This Charming Man
Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself
Speedway
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
I've Changed My Plea To Guilty

Listening right now, the best compilation I've heard in a very long time to be honest :D Yer, I know, it's a bit blasphemic to make CD's like this with such great band(s)...well, well! :D

let me give you my revised version

Alsatian Cousin
Dial-A-Cliché
Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself
Spring-Heeled Jim
Handsome Devil
Paint A Vulgar Picture
i wont share you
miserable lie
what she said
striptease with a difference

sweet and tender hooligan live

In places where there are obviously two people speaking, I have labelled them A and B - I'm not saying these two are the same people in each of the spoken word segments. I haven't tried to represent all the "La la las", or to represent the Cockney accents phonetically. Comments in square brackets are mine, round brackets indicate something I'm not sure about.

A: You know what I seen (?) tonight Rob ?
B: What?
A: [You] know old Georgie Meadows ?
B: Yeah.
A: They're gonna get a team up and go out and do him.
B: Who is ?
A: Smithy !

Spring-heeled Jim winks an eye
He'll "do", he'll never be "done to"
He takes on whoever flew through
"Well, it's the normal thing to do" ... ah ...

B: [Indistinct mumble] Cause old Smithy got one. Tooting Bec was going to come down and have a go at Smithy one of these days, you know how many boys there was at Smithy, least a hundred.

Course, when I used to go round with Jimmy (Butler ?) there was about twelve of us going down (?) Road, and we'd see all these lot, there was a crowd of 'em right at the end of the meat racks, and there was fifty there, and there was, you know [singing starts]

Spring-heeled Jim lives to love
Now kissing with his mouth full
And his eyes on some other fool
So many women
His head should be spinning
Ah, but no !

A: One fellow was in the copper's arms, wasn't he, and the other fellow had the gun, and he was free, and he shot him, but the other fellow that was in the copper's arms got hung, and that kid'll be out when he's about sixteen, won't he ?

Spring-heeled Jim slurs the words :
"There's no need to be so knowing
Take life at five times the
Average speed, like I do"
Until Jim feels the chill
"Oh, where did all the time go ?"

Once always in for the kill
Now it's too cold
And he feels too
old

B: [Indistinct mumble] Cause old Smithy got one.

Tooting Bec...[As before] ... and there was, you know (Thomas Square ?), they had another fifty round there. You know what Smithy looks like, he don't look hard, does he ?
A: No, he looks a queer, don't he ?
B: Yeah.
A: He's seeing some fellow up our street, and he was with his mates and...

A: You know that Craig and (?)
B: Yeah ?
A: One fellow was in the copper's arms ...

A: But say someone came round your house tonight and found your brother and sister in their bed, he's only worried about the prison, he ain't got to worry about them, has he ? [Unclear]
B: What about these people who go round murdering, and they catch them, and they say he's mental ?

Enjoy

I've just listened to it now for the first time. It's pretty good, though not a patch on 'Vauxhall and I', IMO.

I've heard it and it's pretty good on first impression, except the track where he goes on about his kegs (rather disappointingly, after all I'd heard about it beforehand), as track two it seems to slow up the album stuck in between two rather ace tracks and I'm not sure it fits in to the album at all overall. Maybe repeated listening will change this, I'll find out when I buy it next week probably.

my friend went to see him in 05 i think, and she said, half way through beck did an acoustic set, and his band sat down for a meal (on stage) of sheperds pie, and they started playing percussion using the plates and cuttlery towards the end of the acoustic part. :)

I was worried when I read this, I thought he had cancelled the London date and I was like :eek::mad:, but calmed down again when I read back.. phew!

Managed to get presale tickets for £20 each, GET IN!
(Anyone interested, just text Morrissey to 2402 with an O2 number to get the code)

Can't wait to see Beck live either, hope there's more awesome acts to follow .

Well, I think it's safe to say this will be the best day out of all 4 Wireless dates this year. By a long, country mile.

I am seeing Morrissey in concert in Dundee on May 5th, surprised me a little that there were tickets still left.

Though I did read somewhere he has cancelled a few US dates because of voice problems.

He better recover soon, it's the best thing to ever happen to Dundee.

I really like Years Of Refusal, aside from the ghastly artwork. I think I prefer Morrissey when he's angry and full of 'raaaaawk' and explains why I like songs like Irish Blood, English Heart. His voice sounds great too, especially on It's Not Your Birthday Anymore.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dundee concert. Shame Doll and The Kicks didn't really have as much presence as I would have expected. Managed to get very near the front, right in the melee of a fight between local neds. Morrissey loved it.

I'm very much enjoying listen to Southpaw Grammar at the moment - especially Dagenham Dave and The Operation. Also, Your Arsenal, which I think may well be his best early album, Tomorrow and National Front Disco really stand out for me on that, despite the dubious lyrics of the latter.

That sucks a bit. Whereabouts were you in the queue, by the way, assuming it was the Dundee concert you ended up going to? I found a copy of the Times Magazine for last Saturday on the train back home to Essex and it had a picture of Guillame the French chap, who was right at the front of the queue, or at least as I remember it.

I quite enjoyed the video installations between DATK and Morrissey coming on, even if he ended up late. I especially enjoyed the snippet of the Shelagh Delaney interview. Plus the whole installation had an otherwordly feel to it. For a moment I pretended I was at the Coming Of The Apocalypse, and Morrissey had chosen what the masses watch before oblivion.

He was looking quite toned, I thought, there was the outline of a six-pack. Hilarious to see so many people fighting over his shirt when he threw it, though.

I was numberrrrrr 19 in the queue, ish. Barrier bound :awesome: The french guy was quite funny ... in fact I found it funny that every man who was in front of me in the queue seemed to be a slight moz clone.

"A fight in Dundee, what a surprise" or something along those lines :chuckle:

I'm glad the shirt didn't come my way this time. Scary stuff.

I wouldn't have been too far behind you in the queue, then. I reckon I was about Number 25. You're right though.....a couple were wearing deaf-aids and I couldn't tell whether it was a homage to Morrissey or whether they were genuinely deaf.

He loved that fight! Genuine joy upon his face, which doesn't surprise me....he is certainly more of a thug now than 20 years ago.

One of the drumsticks was thrown into the crowd at the end of the gig, and seriously, these two guys were fighting over it for at least 5 minutes, both desperate to come away with it. Didn't hang around to see who won.

An all round brilliant set.....First Of The Gang To Die a lovely encore.

Apparently he's now in a stable condition which is great news although he's unfortunately very sick still.
