No thread on them so i made one..or im stupid and there is one.

Next year is going to be a wonderful year jam packed with Pearl Jam goodies to fill everyone's wishlist. Pearl Jam have been busy working on their next studio album to be released on the BMG label, and tour plans are in the works. Although it's still too early to give specifics, European fans can do some early rejoicing

they are my favourite band, been following them since i found my brothers ten album around 10 years ago.

cant wait to see what they will be producing next.

anyone else interested?

Indeed. Nevermind is still good. Listen to Ten now, I kinda liked it back then, but it's rubbish, really...

The answer to MethamphetamineBlues' question is: they suck because I say so, matter of taste I guess. Vedder's voice on Ten is talentless pretentious pensive wailing of pretentious talentless lyrics (Jeremy, oh GOD, Vedder is teh fucking GrungeBono!). The lyrics are like an emokid's diary scribblings. The music is ok, but nothing too special, worthy of leaving the garage, not worthy of conquering the world...

I know.... Hence my GrungeBono comment, actually I meant to say GrungeBob Geldoff, but it doesn't sound as good and it's easy to confuse the two. The diary scribblings comment was about all of Ten..

As for the commercial succes, I didn't make that comment, but it surprises me that it sold better than nevermind, point for you/Pearl Jam (though it doesn't say anything about quality, of course)

news...

Pearl Jam is progressing on its eighth studio album in Seattle. Guitarist Mike McCready tells Billboard.com the band has "about 20-25" songs in the hopper, comprising "some ballads and some pretty harder stuff, and some Who-ish type-stuff."

In addition, McCready says Pearl Jam is approaching the project from a new angle. "How we're recording it is a first," he says. "We've been recording for awhile, and then we'll sit down and listen to the songs and then take a couple of weeks off, come back and re-record them and add stuff. We generally just go in, do some demos and record."

McCready is hoping the as-yet-untitled album will be out before the end of the year, with a tour to follow. The set will be Pearl Jam's first for J Records/BMG, following the dissolution of its career-long relationship with Epic.

However, the guitarist says Pearl Jam is "not anywhere close to being done. We're about halfway there. It's going to be a really awesome record, and I'm not just saying that like every band member says it. It's been really exciting."

The opportunity to revisit and potentially add to songs has been a welcome one, the guitarist says. "I've woken up a few times and had a riff going in my head that I really liked, say, of [bassist] Jeff [Ament]'s or something," he offers. "It's like, OK, cool. That one is sticking in my head. I want to keep doing that. Let's do that. Whereas before, you'd just do it and it'd be done."

Guitarist McCready calls new songs "hard-rocking," with nods to punk and the Who

"It's a classic Pearl Jam record -- it's got the excitement of Vs. to it," guitarist Mike McCready says of the new CD his band has spent the past eight months recording in Seattle. "There's some powerful singing, and the music is pretty hard-rocking."

Produced by Adam Kasper (Soundgarden), the follow-up to 2002's Riot Act will be the band's first studio album for J Records. "It's really freeing to be on a new label," McCready says. "It feels like a brand new relationship and their excitement makes us feel confident about it."

Pearl Jam -- McCready, singer Eddie Vedder, guitarist Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament and drummer Matt Cameron -- have eight songs in the can so far. McCready is especially psyched about "Severed Hand," a "heavy rocker" written by Gossard and "Worldwide Suicide," penned by Vedder. "['Worldwide'] is very punky and Who-ish," Gossard says. "It'll catch your attention." Other tentative songs include "Marker," "Cold Concession" and "2x4."

"We all came up with different songs for ourselves," McCready says. "We came in, edited and kicked out ideas. Ed's been a hardcore workhorse, experimenting with intense, layered vocals. It's hard-edge with some pop feel."

The band, currently on a North American tour, will head back into the studio to finish the still-untitled disc in October, and hopes to have it in stores early next year. Meanwhile, Pearl Jam will offer fans digital downloads of their live shows at pearljam.com, beginning with their September 1st concert in George, Washington.

Pearl Jam feeling 'aggressive' on new album

NEW YORK (Billboard) - As it prepares for its maiden tour of South America, which begins November 22 in Santiago, Chile, Pearl Jam is still working on its first studio album since 2002's "Riot Act."

The as-yet-untitled set is due next spring via Sony BMG's J Records label.

"It's been a difficult record and it's like sometimes the harder something is, then the more valuable it becomes," frontman
Eddie Vedder said during a Brazilian radio interview earlier this week.

"It's easily the best stuff we've done but also some of the hardest stuff. It's very aggressive, because again, it's kind of a product of what it's like to be an American these days. It's pretty aggressive, especially when you turn it loud."

The band has been working on and off throughout the year on the set, but Vedder said, "It's not quite done. I'm hoping to finish the last of the songs while I'm down (in South America). I'm bringing my tape machines and all that down. If I can come back and finish the last few songs in January, then it will be out in April or something."

For now, Pearl Jam is not planning to unveil any new songs in a live setting. "We want them to be heard for the first time when the record comes out," Vedder said.

But he added he had been mulling an album title that was a play on Soundgarden's "Superunknown": "I was thinking of the word 'un-owned' -- not owned by anybody," he said. "The sky is un-owned. The moon is un-owned. We're un-owned. We want to remain un-owned. The title was 'Superun-owned."

PEARL JAM's eighth studio album will be released internationally during the week beginning May
1st.

The yet-to-be titled album, their first through new label J Records, is a heavier effort than their recent albums and is sure to please fans. In late February they will release the first single “Worldwide Suicide”, a rocker that breaks the mould of previous Pearl Jam singles, accompanied by a music video and exclusive CD-ROM components for fanclub members. The band penned 25-30 new songs over the recording period and finalised 12 album tracks in their new Seattle studio last week.

A representative for the band has also stated that although no specific tour dates have been finalized, Pearl Jam will begin their most comprehensive world tour on the US East Coast in May, followed by a West Coast/Canada leg. Fans in Europe will also get to see the band for the first time since 2000 in October and November, before the band concludes their stretch of shows in Australia and
New Zealand in December.

PEARL JAM announce new album and tour details

The long-awaited follow-up to Pearl Jam's 2002 album 'Riot Act' is
soon ready to hit record store shelves via J Records. The aptly
titled upcoming album 'New World' is set for a US/European release
on 9 May.

Songs to appear on the album:

'Worldwide Suicide',
'2x4',
'Crapshoot Rapture',
'Parachute',
'Of The Earth',
'Severed Hand',
'Big Job',
'Fearless'
'Sun Down',
'Cold Concession',
'Gone',
'Unenployable' and
'Marker'.

Pearl Jam + Robert Plant
Launch Radio Networks reports: Video from the Hurricane Katrina benefit that PEARL JAM did with LED ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant at the House Of Blues in Chicago earlier this month is now available. Clips of the ZEPPELIN songs "Going To California" and "Fool In The Rain", with Plant and PEARL JAM frontman Eddie Vedder trading verses, as well as one of Plant playing guitar with PEARL JAM on NEIL YOUNG's "Rockin' In The Free World", can be found online. The footage is from the audience, and it was probably shot with a video phone, judging by the quality. To check the songs out, go to Video.Google.com.

Both Vedder and Plant said it was the first time either one had done the 1980 LED ZEPPELIN hit "Fool In The Rain", and they both threw into the audience the lyric sheets they used to get through the song.

All told, Plant and PEARL JAM did five songs together — "Little Sister", "Money (That's What I Want)", "Fool In The Rain", "Thank You", and "Rockin' In The Free World", which was the show's encore. "Going To California" featured Plant and two members of his band the STRANGE SENSATION.

Nah, I'll find it myself in a bit.

Any suggestions on which album to get next?
hm tough question.

i'd say Vs. because thats very rock and you'll like that..i'd also say Yield is worth checking out because its an album that really grows on you and is my favourite.
i really love all the albums...not so much the last two. you could just pick up rearviewmirror the best of as that is worth every penny for the two disks.

Get Yield. The only album of theirs can stand. Used to like Ten too, but then I came to the conclusion that it's crap.

Why are they called Pearl Jam? Is it a pun I've been missing for 15 years?
In an early promotional interview Eddie Vedder claimed that the name "Pearl Jam" was a reference to his great-grandmother, Pearl, who was married to a Native American man and had a special recipe for peyote-laced jam. However, this story seems to have been invented by Vedder as a joke. Another theory put forward in the book Five Against One holds that one of the band members really wanted "pearl" in the new name, and jamming is a common activity done by musicians. The generally-accepted explanation is that it was a phrase the band thought would sound good, so they stuck to it.

Did anyone see/hear the kick-ass performance of Severed Hand on Saturday Night Live in the States?

YouTube had a video of it floating around, but it was taken down due to "copyright reasons". But here's an audio rip I made of it before it disappeared if anyone's interested.

I'm getting this Thursday... but I just downloaded it...

It's got a great "vibe" going through it. I've only listened to it once thorugh, but I'd already rate it better than their last two albums (Binaural and Riot Act). It's weird but listening to it you get the feeling that they've rediscovered something... and I have a paticular fondness of the 7 minute (slightly Zeppelin-esque) Inside Job that closes the album, but there's quite a few really good PJ songs on here.

It starts off well... then dips about 5 songs in and never really gets back to the same standard :(

This makes me sad :'(

It's all... very straight forward. With pearl jam I liked the fact you'd get the odd "weird out" track with each album from vitalogy onwards (bugs, stupidmop, red dot, push me pull me, arc etc) along with some rollocking good rock songs. This album is quite watered down, with no surprises. It's a less challenging listen than the last few albums, and this isn't a good thing.

I'm hoping it will grow on me though, although I've listened to it 5 times this week, and it's taken me this long just to admit it's sub par.

*air of disappointment*

Top Pearl Jam albums...
Well, I've tried (and failed) to put PJ albums in a list before, so here's alist of albums and how many really good songs are on there... the ones you would like to see them play live, for example.

Vitalogy - 7
Yield - 7
Ten - 6
Vs. - 6
No Code - 6
Binaural - 6
Pearl Jam - 6
Riot Act - 5

Going by that method, it would seem that only Riot Act really lets the side down a bit.

I guess I'll rank their albums, favorite to least favorite.

No Code
Yield (In Hiding is so fucking gorgeous.)
Riot Act (This would be number 1 if Get Right and Thumbing My Way were b-sides and they included Down and Undone.)
Pearl Jam
Vitalogy ( Last Exit-STBC-Not For You-Tremor Christ, probably my favorite opening to any album.)
Binaural (They leave Sad, Fatal, and Education off but they include Evacuation, Rival, and God's Dice. Eddie makes some terrible choices at times. Plus, the original version of Light Years shits all over the studio version.)
Vs. (When I was 15, this album was all I'd listen to. Leash kicked my ass.)
Ten (I can only lsiten to Oceans, Porch and Alive. Everything else sounds way too dated, and Garden is to Creedish for me. Fucking Scott Stapp.)

There isn't really an official date set yet. But Mike McCready said that the date will be sometime in the fall. There are some articles floating about that go into more detail but it sounds awesome.
