Holy Bible era, what more can I say? :)

Very good album :D I quite like all their albums really. Generation Terrorist has that old rock sound we thought we'd never hear again 'til the bloody darkness came along, Gold Against The Soul is pretty underrated, Holy Bible :) and Everything Must Go, quality album :D

I like everything the manics have done!! Even all the more recent stuff.. I thought This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours was a great album! Their old stuff is amazing too :)

Dully impressed...

I thought they were going to rock my socks... but only certain songs did. Others faded.
I absolutely ADORE;
If you Tolerate this then your Children will be Next
Everything Must Go
A Design for Life

and a few others are cool, but a little in consistant in my opinion.

Recent stuff has a more grown up sound to it. Prefer the earlier stuff tho, ah a band i'd wished i could have seen back in those days...

Has there been any more news on the new album??

I've been their big, crazy fan for ages, so crazy that I went from Poland to Wales to see them live, and not just once but twice, not to mention other gigs in England. However their latest stuff disappoints me. Songs like Door To The River, There By The Grace of God or Forever Delayed don't mean anything to me.

I'm a little affraid of a new album. They recorded 10 songs or something, and I heard some rumours the songs don't sound like Manics...

I was a big fan of the Manics until their post- This is my truth, tell me yours, albums. Their best album was easily The Holy Bible (Revol and Faster are my faves.) Design for life and Gold Against the Soul was awesome and underrated. But their recent stuff sounded like their were ready for retirement. Which is a shame as they are a good band..... :(
Masses against the Classes, what a tune!!

winmx and kazza(if it's still going) will have lots of them.

Probable the ones i'm sharing!

Muse and manics are about the only bands i like that always make great b-sides!

Best era was probably more recent IMO, they were trying to hard earlier stuff...

Hb was great though... EMG and TIMTTMY rawk! as does the first two ablums :p KYE was... ok

I finally went out and got 4 of their albums and they're amazing. Gold Against the Soul is slowly turning into one of my favourite albums ever and Holy Bible, Everything Must Go and This is my Truth... are damn good as well.

I hope they announce to play one of the main festivals in the summer (well, V or Reading actually). I can't make it to the Isle of Wight. :(

I'm not sure that they will, they're working on the 7th album at the moment. Though they should be touring it next year  ,
I can't believe the albums were sat here in my mums collection for so long and not i've listened to them until recently....

The Holy Bible is definitive though and should be listened to by all, also get the dvd of them live at the millenium stadium on the millenium new years eve, its truly awesome!

the holy bible and gold against the soul are my favourites at the moment, die in the summertime, and yourself are probably my most favourite manics songs, i cant understand why people hate know your enemy so much. forever delayed definately needed she is suffering, roses in the hospital and let robeson sing on it.

Know Your Enemy is good for the most part, Ocean Spray is beautiful, but sometimes the lyrics are a bit pointless like Intravenous Agnostic what's that all about then?

nicky wire thinks differently
from www.manicsonline.com :
INTRAVENOUS AGNOSTIC - Spiky Guitars and distorted vocals. One of the first lyrics written and "Sums up the album a lot", says Nicky Wire. "It's about maximum intake of reality. Sometimes this album is literally too much lyrically and that's what's good about it."

yes but he wrote it so he would know what it's on about,

Intravenous Agnostic literally means "into the veins, im undecided" or something along those lines, it's still a good song i just don't know what the hell he's on about

Everything Must Go and Know Your Enemy are my favourite albums of theirs. I go through periods when I love them and periods when I'm not so bothered. Recently though, I dug out Know Your Enemy and I'm now obsessed - it is such a good rock album.

Lipstick Traces too........I don't understand why Prologue To History and Judge Yr'self - two of their best songs in my opinion - were both B-sides. Especially considering that Prologue.... was a B-side to a single from This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours, which is comfortably their worst album.

Interesting. I'm one of those "die hard" Manics fans in many ways, but absolutely hated Know Your Enemy. Like someone else posted, I'm seriously scared to hear their new stuff. I was unfortunately privy to live screenings of "forever delayed" and as much as I tried to like it, I just couldn't. I've heard a live version of "Everything Will Be", another new Manics song that was debuted at Glastonbury last year, and um... Yeah, I'd expect better from the Sugababes. I'd like to say that maybe a "change in sound" would be a good thing, but the Manics are one of those bands for whom it was never "just" about the music. Their style and their politics were integral to why I loved them so much and now they're just skeletons of all that. I understand that they're older and settled with kids (!), but the public apathy towards politics is disappointing.

Hm, I could write an essay on this, so I'll stop now..

Yeah i can understand that, though if the music they produce next is good without having to rant about politics then i'll be happy enough. I think they've vented most of their spleen, but who knows they could be revitalised and raring to go again.

I'd like to de-rail the thread quickly and introduce you to Kinesis. Click on the pic in my sig and you'll go their site. Politico-punk, massive Manics fans, and the debut albums great.

And I'll agree with the person that said This is my Truth... is the worst album (although I haven't got Know Your Enemy), it just doesn't have the song quality...

judge yr'self wasn't really a b-side, as far as i know it wasn't released at all until lipstick traces. it was meant to be on the soundtrack to judge dread which the band were working on at the time of richie's disappearance.

haha. silly fans. i see nothing wrong with progression.

a lot of manics fans were like....ugh we want guitar solos!!! and all this junk that they did back with generation terrorists/holy bible..but they have to remember that the manics are much older than when the holy bible came out...i mean...gee..that was ten years ago. i'm glad they aren't still making records like the holy bible...i mean...yeah..its a fucking brillant album....but if they kept doing the same thing...blah.

cheers to the manics and nicky wire who is perfection.

haha...sorry...but showbiz--it is why i started to like muse, i mean its a good album..and anything matt sings is beauty..but in comparison to everything else they have released since then...it really is on such a lower level.

matt's lyrics on showbiz make me giggle...he's getting much better.

cheers to matt.

Leaving the 20th century also is a must, it's a great live dvd with a great tracklisting, if you like Louder Than War you'll love this.

Forever Delayed i dont have but it's all of the videos they've ever made i think, im thinking of getting it, just depends how much you're into the videos.

nice! actually....gold against the soul is my least favorite manics album. the singles are great and so is drug drug druggy..but everything else...is meh.

but its the manics...so wooooooo!

i just put in everything must go today--i haven't listened to it in ages---i forgot how much i love them. it's always nice to rediscover your favorites.

i did the same with kid a...oh man...manics+radiohead..

the only thing that could make that better is to add a bit of muse.

Yeah, die in the summertime is such a great song, all the songs on Gold against the Soul and the Holy Bbile seem worthy enough to be singles to me anyway though! But Forever Delayed always seemed to have too many songs on it that didn't need to be on it, its too.. erm.. big to get people into the manics.. or so i thought

I'm kinda meh about it. It wasn't rubbish, but it wasn't good either; simply lodged in the middle. Think Pet Shop Boys. Synths in chorus. They haven't utilised James' voice at all. Jo Whiley raved about a few other tracks on the album, neither of which were Empty Souls (that's a fantastic track!) so I still hold out hope. The Manics aren't always conventional in the way they release singles -'Revol' being the first from 'The Holy Bible', for example- and therefore, what with all the talk of this album being a return to their previous sound, they could be releasing this oddity as it's the furthest away from what they've previously done and another side to them.

As for the new song I've not heard it but I have got the B-Side for it, they played it at Glastonbury last year and it's kinda alright, a bit like how you described this new song really. Though Empty Souls is much better i think.

my mates and i are buying our tickets for nottingham tonight, should be good, i'm prayin they play a big chunk of the holy bible, especially if they are re-releasing it as they said. i do hope the new album is good, i ove empty souls n solitude sometimes is is good too, the love of richard nixon has grown on me n seems pretty ok now, but its just not them, it seems kinda average n not really 1st single material, empty souls would have good too, but hey this is ok, not GREAT but ok, im expecting good things of Life Blood though...

Depends whether they're really trying to push this album or are just gonna rely on the existing fanbase and therefore play more old than new. Though we'll have to see how good this new album is first as well.

I got my tickets for the manchester date of the life blood tour, and as a BIG BIG fan of the manics, id like to point out to everyone who is hoping that they will play alot of their old stuff, they did this on the greatest hits tour...which was wat the greatest hits tour was all about! this tour is to promote the new album so they are not guna play a full set consisting of holy bible tracks, which i guess alot of ppl wud love, its a tour for a new album so therfore thats wat they are goin to be playing, a large portion of the album.

Ive been a fan of the manics for almost 10yrs, and have seen them a few times, id just like to point out that when they do promote a new album they will play most of it live 4the 1st time, as they did with knw ur enemy, emg, timttmy etc..iwas lucky to b at the 1st gig they played after comin bck frm cuba and they did play a large portion of kye, including miss europa diso dancer and a few others thay have rarely done since. Please dont expect a set full of all old manics stuff cos it aint guna happen, especially with this new cd comin out, but i can probably guaruntee they will do the popular singles like design, you stole the sun,you love us, motorcyle, kevin carter maybe, ocean spray, tolerate etc and may throw in a few faves 4 the older and more die hard fans, me being an obssesive 1,lol...

ill be at the MEN havina gr8 night, ill also prob be waitin afterwards to meet them again, ive luckily met em everytime ive seen em so im guna try my hardest to do so again,lol...if any 1 wants to meet up with me and my mate drop me a pm and we cud meet up or sumthig

Yeah, it is something to hope for, although there are alot of ppl who love the hb, i particularly preffer generation terrorists, best debut album ive ever heard, i love the rawness and unorganised feeling. yes wen ive seen them they have often played acoustic songs, well james only, usually nicky and sean go off and james comes on 2do a couple of acoustics.

As for it being the best album in a while, I'm not sure, I do like them all. This Is My Truth is critically acclaimed but underrated by Manics fans, kinda like Absolution is. TIMT is great, it's very open and soul baring. KYE was not quite up there, but still had some great material. Most manics fans want them to reproduce their finest work and they're never gonna do that, what would be the point.

I found this (http://www.freewebs.com/robnd/) site most amusing.
But I didn't think non-Manics fans would appreciate it.

One thing- That's the real reason why Liam (Gallagher) kissed Nicky that night at the Brits! Say what? O_o

lifeblood is most excellent, however i don't think it's really an album you can love straight off the back...it took me a couple of listens to fully adore it.

each song gets better with every listen....especially 'a song for departure' and 'solitude sometimes is'

which i believe are my favorites...as of now

and just because it can be said again...the nixon masks are quite scary...

hey, was just wondering, is anyone one else from here a Manic Street preachers fan? and if so are you seeing them on their next tour?

also, very important, me and my friends are making manics t-shirts for the gig on december 9th (Wembly), and I am at a loss as what I should paint on mine?

i've decided to go for "Methadone Pretty" sprayed on the front in Generation-Terrorists stylie, and i want to put some random manics lyric/qoute on the back. I was thinking about "self disgust is selfobsession" as a possibility, but what do you think is the best manics quote? my t-shirt is riding on this...
