Girl? Shit - you can have ME forever if you bake ME a pie. Cherry, please.

I think the whole JDB-pies (of the meat variety) thing started when he became slightly 'chubbier' compared to how he was in his younger days. :chuckle:

Your loaf alone - is not enough not enough not enough
When times get tough they get tough they get tough they get tough
Trade all your Heroes in for toast in for toast in for toast
It's always the buns that love you most love you most love you most
Your loaf alone - is not enough not enough not enough
It's what you felt it's what you said what you said what you said
You said the pie would fall on you fall on you fall on you
Through all the pain your pies stayed Blue they stayed Blue Baby Blue
But your loaf alone won't save the world
You knew the secret of the universe
Despite it all you made it worse
It left you lazy it left you cursed
You stole the bun straight from my tart from my tart from tart
With no excuses just fell apart fell apart fell apart
No you won't make a mess of meat mess of meat mess of meat
For you're as round as a man can be man can be man can be
I could have seen for meals and meals
I could have made you five alive
I could have placed us in the aisle
I could have shown you how to fry
Your loaf alone is not enough
Your loaf alone is not enough

It exists on a plate, a home-made tart
but i'm still stranded here...with all these crumbs!
So warm, so sweet...so beautiful
Oh, I found that roll!yeah I found it now
Ohhh I ate that roll..! x2
Not Full, not stuffed am I
Sick and pale but..strangley hungry
Sugery cakes...line my plate!
Confectionary tastes good

Mister Bowers disco dancer
Feel the drug in your corona
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Turn on the oven when I see you
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Favourite bun and spill your bath water
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Just suck suck up all of your flour
So serene, your cheeks turn blue
Breads are spinning, it feels so good
It's poetry, sheer poetry
The way you destroy your beauty
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Brutally becomes a no hoper
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Had your luck and had your chances
Mister Bowers disco dancer
I never reached the supernoodles
Mister Bowers disco dancer
Wake up drunk and then fall over
So messed up, the world turns grey
All washed up with debts to pay
It's agony, sheer agony
The way your life just fades away
So serene, your cheeks turn blue
No you're not thinning, it feels so good
It's poetry, sheer poetry
The way you destroy your beauty
So messed up, the world turns grey
All washed up with debts to pay
It's agony, sheer agony
The way your life just fades away

Yeah it's a decent enough tune but it's back to their previous sound again. I preferred the rawer, edgier sound that they had on Journal For Plague Lovers. I don't see why they would need to have lyrics written by Richey for James and Sean's music to sound like that.

The album is actually OK, once you get over that it is nothing at all like old Manics. On first listen I really didn't like it but it has grown on me.
The best track for me is 'A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun' which has Duff McKagan on bass. :awesome:
The Wire's song 'The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever' is actually quite decent.
It's very upbeat for a Manics record.

On the first listen I thought it was crap. Gave it a few more listens and it isn't so bad, not brilliant though. Better than Lifeblood and Know Your Enemy.
I still prefer their early work.
I don't know...I can't help but feel that on each track they are trying to recreate something from their past but this time with a bigger budget. I might give it another listen if I have time though.

Absolutely love the album, as much as JFPL.
I know it's a completely different sound, but there are some absolutely fantastic 'big' songs on there and they do lapse into their old ways from time-to-time as well, Auto-Intoxication being an example of that.

Yep, and supported by a couple of bands Nicky has slagged off:
"When I seen bands like The Drums being fawned over, it makes me feel ill," he added. "There is literally no soul in that band. They've taken nothing from the depth or poetry or amazing lyrics of Ian Curtis, they've just taken his kooky dance. The whole generation is attired in American Apparel, there's no individualism any more."
"Nothing depresses me more that rock and roll bands of this generation have nothing to say. The urban/metropolitan/grime scene appears to have a bit of reality in what it says, but in our field it's just desperate. What are Two Door Cinema Club singing about? It's beyond my comprehension. There's so much to be inspired by at the moment in either a passionate or negative way, and I do believe rock and roll when we started was about nihilism and romance, narcissism and politics, yet all those things play no part in it any more. Since The Libertines really it's become all about the music, which doesn't half get boring."
Should be interesting.

The gig at Brixton tonight (22nd) was brilliant, but then I've never been to a bad Manics show. There didn't seem to be that many songs from Postcards.. (It's Not War, Postcards, Some Kind of Nothingness and Balconies IIRC), and only one I think from Journal... (Me and Stephen Hawking). The rest was a good greatest hits / favourites sort of set.
I got a bit emotional when everyone was singing along to Motorcycle Emptiness and You Love Us. :supersad:
We got Enola/Alone, which I don't think I've seen live before. Faster was bloody immense.
It was good to see Nicky back on form, scissor kicking and high kicking all over the shop, as the last time I saw them he'd done his back in and couldn't move that well.
During his acoustic bit, James changed the ending of You Stole the Sun from My Heart to:
"I have got to stop swearing, it really lets my family down..."

I still can't remember all the words to Motown Junk.
British Sea Power were great too.
I went to Newport in Oct. Really lucky as they then had to cancel not long after. Agree with everything you've written about it. It was great when the crowd were singing along and what a great setlist :D

I saw Simon Price there, who seemed to have what looked like two orange triangles glued to his bald head. I really dun geddit.

Listened to the Blackwood gig on Radio 2... They are relentless live aren't they?
And... SUICIDE ALLEY! Muse go to Teignmouth and do 'Popcorn', the Manics go to Blackwood and do 'Suicide Alley'. An infintely superior homecoming from rock legends after 22 years of playing.

NATIONAL TREASURES - THE COMPLETE SINGLES - OCTOBER 2011
To celebrate the 21st anniversary of their first single release, MANIC STREET PREACHERS are releasing the ultimate singles collection in October. ‘NATIONAL TREASURES – THE COMPLETE SINGLES’ gathers 38 songs from the band’s rich history, starting with initial Heavenly Records release ‘Motown Junk’ (1990) to tracks taken from last year’s ‘Postcards From A Young Man’ album – the bands tenth which was greeted with universal critical acclaim. The album also features a brand new single and will be released in several formats, details to follow.

Also, I'm not sure what to make of National Treasures. I'd thought the Manics had said years ago they were never going to release a greatest hits album and now they're going to have had two.
National Treasures is a more complete collection than Forever Delayed, but I'm still not sure.

LOVE LOVE LOVE them but unfortunately spent too much time and energy on one of their forums to ever feel sane again:$
James seems to be losing the edge to his vocal a little now. He still sounds great on record but live isn't what he used to be which is a shame because he is an amazingly talented fellow who is also very humble. I think I will always love these guys though, they have been such an important part of my life.

I nearly lost my mind during Revol, bloody fantastic. I have wanted to hear this live for years. Faster was awesome. I was disappointed with She Is Suffering, it just sounded...wrong somehow. Too slow, maybe?? I've definitely seen them do it better at other shows. Once again I welled up during Motorcycle Emptiness. The mirror ball during Everlasting nearly set me off too, haha.
Everyone throwing their arms out during You Love Us, and the shouts of 'fuck off' during Stay Beautiful...just great fun.
I thought they were very hard on poor old So Why So Sad. :supersad:
Motown Junk and ADFL at the end, just brilliant. The swell of feeling during these was so moving. And JDB's speech just before ADFL was just lovely.
