Dunno about anyone else but I'm trying to lose a bit of weight.

I'm trying to do the WeightWatchers point countage thang, 'cause that really worked for me before. Trouble is I don't know how many points are in Bourbon biscuits.

I know there was 1.5 points in a chocolate digestive when I did WW. And half a point in a Rich Tea. Rich Tea are your friends. Curly Wurlies rule as a treat as they are only 2 points. Reasonable for a chocolate bar.

I started going to exercise classes. They have a rather charming name..."Body Pump". uses weights n stuff. Quite fun really. I hate the low fat thing though. Although I have to stick to it. Going to Austrailia in summer. Can't wear baggy jeans there or I will boil to death in my own juices.

Nice.

Essentially you can eat what you like whatever 'diet' you do as long as you're willing to do the exercise to burn it off. If you eat crap and don't exercise, you will get fat(ter). Eat a balanced diet and don't exercise and you won't get AS fat. Just exercise!! Even 15 minutes of walking fast counts!

Either that or drink water when you get hungry and don't snack between meals. Works for me. I've lost 4 pounds in a week just doing that because the slower you lose weight, the longer it will stay off of you. (I've read too many Rosemary Conely magazines!)

Trust. :)

body pump sucks :indiff: ... it is a good workout though (not that i've ever done it or anything, i do body combat, way nicer  ...but pump used to be the class i had to wait for before combat could start, so i could sit in front of the window and laugh at the people with hardly any weights and still not managing to get the darn things of the ground  )

It might be worth doing. When I joined my gym I had some induction sessions with a personal trainer, so that I could be taught how to use the equipment properly, have my fitness assessed and have my first training plan drawn up. I paid £40 for 4 sessions I think.

Depends how your gym works. Further assessments, training plans and advice are included in the monthly membership at my place.

we have one of those, my sister got it. she goes on about 50 diets a week. i can manage about 70 sit ups on one of those before i give up and collapse . i prefer using them to doing normal sit ups, at least you know youre doing it right. although i normally have some kind of routine where i start using it everyday, this lasts for a week then i give up for a few months. i used to swim loads then had an op on my foot and stopped going since!
i do push up on the banisters occasionaly, except i stopped doing those because ive had really bad chest bruising and couldnt even open doors without getting pains!

"processed crappy munch" I will try and remember to use that term when referring to junk food.

but seriously, here it is. I'm not good at sticking with it, but, bleh...

so, if I eat less than 2000 calories a day, I lose weight. I have been evaluated by a doctor, and I assume that most females my age have a very similar metabolism. If I eat more than 2000 calories in a day, I usually walk one mile per every 100 calories that I must burn. Swimming one mile at a moderate (or even relaxed) pace burns 300 calories. So, if I eat 2400 calories one day, and I want to burn 400, I usually walk 4 miles. but hey, 2000 calories is a lot of food, so it's pathetic that I am even able to eat that much in one day.

Eh?

How does that work? So on the "Not atkins" diet you can have as many calories as you like as long as you don't have carbs?

Well obviously if i had far too many i`d get fat like any normal person :p

But i`m not counting calories (i`m being sensible) As they`re not causes my weight..

Carbs cause my weight cos my body can`t convert them.

So we got a Dominoes.

The only way I'll do it is if I join Weight Watchers again, and have to face the fear of being weighed in front of all the other diet numptons.

Walking about 15 mins a day...it makes a big (no pun intended :p ) difference. I'm slim but when I came to America I was a wee bit chubby. I used to walk loads...had no job..had nothing to do..and jerry springer day time tv did nothing for me. I walked 15 mins each day...lost just under a stone in about 3 months... It also helps if you're in a hot climate..sweating while you walk helps you lose more..one reason why I don't miss England...he he...

I can thank Muse (really!) for my losing 35 lbs and keeping it off! When I met them in Sept 04 and had my photo taken with the band, all I could see was my little flabby tummy (thanks to 2 huge babies, 2 Caesareans, one appendectomy, and a fondness for lethargy and bread). So I discovered South Beach, which in essence is eliminating the high-glycemic index carbs like white bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, and eating only whole grain carbs in small amts (1/2 cup is a serving; in US restaurants they give you enough for 3-4 people!), lean protein and low/nonfat dairy 3 times a day, and lots of veggies and fruits, plus the "good fats" like EVOO. They actually require you to eat 6 times a day, but much smaller amts. Unfortunately I had to give up beer---they make some wonderful microbrews up here in the NW---but wine with dinner is allowed, so civilized. And the best thing is, the book promised quick results and loss of belly fat, which is the most dangerous kind in terms of heart risk, etc., and it worked! I lost 6-7 lbs in the first 2 weeks, and the next 25 came off over about 4-5 months. On our 3-week vacation this summer I put on 7 lbs despite a LOT of exercise, but it came of in 2 wks back on the plan. My sister is a BIG girl and has lost almost 50 lbs so far!

The other key is exercise: women in particular have such naturally slow metabolisms that it just doesn't work without some kind of regular, as in 3-4 times a week, cardio (like walking briskly, or aerobics/dance/elliptical/etc), and also muscle building/resistance exercise to rev the matabolism. Never thought i would actually enjoy going to a gym, but now I feel so good that I look forward to workouts. And this from a woman who had lost and regained the same 10-15 lbs a hundred times. My diet wasn't even that bad, it was just the portions and types of food I ate. That, and I'm old with the metabolism of a slug.

I am convinced that anyone can lose wt, but it really does require lifestyle change. Sermon over, Amen. Good luck!!
