Wires - new one - beautiful song, especially with the story behind it.

I agree with everyone else that said boring, bland or anything else along those lines.
Radio 1 play play Wires about 5 times a pissing day, and it really isn't as great as they make it out to be.

Sexcellent

I like Athlete and Wires. What's the story behind it?

Wasn't it written after one of the guy's family members was in hospital???

I think Athlete are ok, I liked their old album, particularly the song "beautiful which lives up to it's title! Don't really like wires that much though...

Its about the lead singer guys premature baby and how it made him feel seeing his baby spend its first night of its life on its own in a incubator box thing knowing he had no control on what was going to happen.

Kind of the feeling of being powerless as to what could happen to his baby.

I like it cos my brother was in special care for ages as a prem. baby so it brings back feelings like that, and my mum finds it very powerful

Meh it's not bad. A bit... weak.

I sorta like them...the song is played too much on radio1 though and I'm getting tired of it (this coming from me, who has listened to Unintended for 8 hours solid). But then again i think with radio 1, any song that makes it onto the A-list playlist has to be played at least 5 times a day.

Yes!
I knew I was right.
I had arguments with my friends about this, I said it was about a baby.
They thought I was talking bollocks.
I pwn.

You're all fuckers. Athlete pwn. Especially Shake Those Windows, Wires and Modern Mafia.

They've changed a lot though. First album was basic guitar-based indie with a few bleepy bits on keyboards. Now the keyboardist plays piano lead in most of the songs (e.g. Wires and Modern Mafia), hence why they sound more like Coldplay etc.

I don't like their new song.

I've bought their last ablum, it's quite okay for in the car, when you're tired.
But for the rest, I don't think they're that impressive as papers said here.

I can;t decide whether I like them or not :(. I like most of their music, but they piss about too much with effects and synth that sounds like its there just for the point of it. Of of the tracks (I forget which) just breaks randomly into Muzak, and in "Yesterday Threw Everything At Me" the random echoey stark voice bit at the end is pasted on. There's moments like it in every track, and its a damn shame, because otherwise they're pretty decent.

Thread revival (again for athlete).

Believe it or not, Their first album was the first album I ever bought in the stores .

I think it makes me a bit biased towards them because they are pretty bland but I started getting into them again today.

I've also met them as a mate of mine knows them. So, yeah, I think that people have forgotten them and so had to revive this thread. :(

Summer Sun. It's really weak compared to most of the stuff on their last album, but I'm hoping it'll grow on me.
