Run of the mill screamo.
Album gets boring quickly. Live performance ruined by all the screaming girls creaming themselves at the band, and not the music.

I think their music lacks emotion and the screaming is aweful :s

Mullin, we all know what they look like.. No need for the (ever so slightly) page stretching photograph...
Oh, and FFAF are The Poop.
I hear from my friend that, at the NME awards tour, after The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand and the Von Bondies had finished, half the crowd left.
How wonderful.

Just posting a picture doesn't really say that..
A picture may well paint a thousand words, but when the only 7 words that you need are "Funeral For A Friend are ugly mingers", an explanation would be handy.

because, emo all sounds the same, all screamy and "I hate the world, my life is shit so I'm gonna cut my wrists" and usually it's all done by a bunch of middle class mummy's boys who don't really know what proper suffering is.

I agree alot of the new emo is the same but don't be stereotypical. Listen to some old emo or original emo like hey mercedes, sunny day real estate, emery, frail or the promise ring. And can't you class alot of genres that sing about the same things?
Emo is my favourite genre and if you don't listen to the obvious bands like taking back sunday, rufio, brand new (who i still like) you'll find alot of emo to be very original and not depressing.
Bands like FFAF and something corporate i prefer not to class as emo because there is nothing emotional about there music at all and they are commercial hores.

i would like to just point out that you can say that about any genre of music.if you example listen ratm(i really like this band) all their songs sound the same and so do travis songs and so on and so on.so its not just emo, its also rock, pop, electronic.

there is two genres. music i like, and music i don't.
i was people would shut the fuck up with all this "oh it's 'emo', i know i won't like it". give the music a chance, stop hating a band because they fit into a certain genre of music, and stop being so damn ignorant. i really dispise people like you Mullin. and i don't even know you, says alot.

you said yourself that there's two genres of music, well if the majority of emo falls into the "music I don't like" category (which for me it does) you aren't gonna be so willing to try other forms of music in the "emo" category...

people always kick up a fuss about what genre a band is in, who cares what genre it is in?
if you like the music, you listen to it, if you don't like the music, then don't listen to it.

I agree, to be honest I do actually listen to an "emo" band before I judge them, people generally dislike the whole thing because certain bands have given it a bad name...
Good charlotte anyone? They're like the biggest stereotypical emo/punk rawk band going

tis true, but in my opinion it seems unfortunate that a majority of the rubbish music out there seems to fall in the Emo category... save hundred reasons, they're good emo.

what is with all this "emocore". why is there are 'core' added to many many genres now, what's all the fuss about?
I think core is just the heaviest version of the genre...

This in my opinion is a good welsh Emoish band. But proper british emo.so not really emo at all :) . Well there first Ep four ways to scream your name is pretty good and so is there second one seven ways to scream your name. And casually dressed and deep in convosation is good too.Well i think there really really good. Quite heavy in alot of there songs and good song writing and guitar riffs, and good origional drumming, Hell it's all good!
Cheers -=Uno=-

I saw them when they were supporting Iron Maiden...they were pretty damn cool...but the drummer had a tiny four peice kit, which sucks. I think the guitarists (electric and bass) were playing PRSs though (i couldn't tell, i was a long way back) and they are sweet. The singer couldn't stop throwing his mic around and was always side on and crouching down though...they were very nice to the audience though, they seemed like nice guys.

I got the album aaaages ago. I got the DVd for chrsitmas, I dont even know why I asked for it but I did, and Im glad I did. :)
I was really impressed with the gig they put on there. They sound a lot better live. And they come across as really nice guys on the tour footage.
I think I prefer the songs off the EPs to the album. Bullet Theory is my favourite but I like "You want romance?" and "kiss and make up" more than any other songs on the album.
Hahah I liked what they did with the 3 songs regarding the videos, where they had the story carrying ion throught them all.
Oh and regarding the hidden stuff - Just open up the triloy menu, both pages of the live menu, the promo menu and the discoraphy menu I think and when its loaded press the up button on your remote. :)

new album is outstanding.
they did say they might alienate some of their fans with the new stuff, and they might do just that. for the fans of the harder stuff, they're going to be abit left behind. The End of Nothing is very reminiscent of 10 Scene Points to the Winner, very heavy, along with Alvarez, but other than that...
All the Rage is a classic FFAF song, and a perfect opener for the album. amazing vocals on this song, with Gareth providing some more backing vocals. there's much less of Ryan's vocals on this album, which may or may not please you. it's great to finally hear Roses for the Dead in all it's studio glory too!
Sonny is a very different approach, and something i didn't expect at all. it's almost Trip-Hop (reminds me of Sneaker Pimps, just not as good) it's surefire way to end the album, very pleased with this one!
just can't wait now to hear the new stuff live now.

Funeral For A Friend - Tales Don't Tell Themselves
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/51RR9tavv0L._AA240_.jpg
David is a Fisherman who is captain of a boat that regularly trawls the deep waters, he comes from a small fishing town on the coast where his wife Eleanor and daughter Isabelle await his return, but a huge storm is quickly approaching it hits the town and and then batters David's boat and leaves him shipwrecked in the middle of the ocean as the only survivor. He spends days adrift going crazy and delirious wondering if he will ever see his family again, meanwhile the towns people fear that the fishermen are all dead, the coast guards rescue attempts have failed to recover any survivors. David becomes so delirious his life flashes before his eyes (he guides his younger self through his life as a blackbird) he eventually hits land and snaps out of his delusion. He is scared of the waters and the colossal waves and power that killed his crew but he decides that doing nothing to get back to Eleanor and Isabelle is a cowardly way out so he decides to build a small raft and brave the elements once again, this time he is found by a lifeboat and reunited with his family. The End.
Basically, "Cast Away" meets "The Perfect Storm", it has a lot to do with my own personal fears of the ocean and coming to terms with that through the story.

New album sounds appauling so far..
...it's nowhere near as appalling as your spelling.
Everyone who I know who has heard it thinks it's class, and most of the critics I've read who have listened to and reviewed it have said decent/good things about it. Don't get me wrong, I know it's "different strokes for different folks" and all that, but anyone who can listen to the tracks The Diary, All Hands On Deck Part 1: Raise The Sail, and The Sweetest Wave and say that they're appauling [sic] is making a knee jerk assessment.
This album isn't Casually Dressed... and these songs were never going to be the next Juneau's of this world. FFAF are at a totally different place to where they were 5 years ago both musically and mentally. As it is, I like where their music is going.

Into Oblivion is the first (and currently only) FFAF song I like. Catchy song.

:( I usually pride myself on decent spelling and grammer.. as sad as that is, heh.
Meh.. there -are- decent tracks (Out of Reach, The Great Wide Open) but it's just sad how much they've moved away from their old styles. I loved Hours, even more so than CDADIC, but this album just seems damn boring and uninspired, with FFAF craving for commercial success. Another album with tracks such as All the Rage and Monsters and i would have been happy, even though i know that any band moves on and experiments.
actually, they arent craving commercial success... as they are maturing as a band they find the screaming pointless to carry it on... this album is how Matt Davies (lead singer) is overcoming his fear of the ocean, by writing a story from a third person viewpoint, the video fro Into Oblivion... Matt hated it, he dreaded it, but carried on to try and overcome his fear. I don't know if he is slowly overcoming his fear but it will surface one day. But I know what you mean I'd like songs with more of a kick in them.

Heard the album streamed on myspace, was quite good. I like Part 2, Into Oblivion, Out Of Reach and the last track (can't remember it's name).
Anyone going to their show at Brixton Academy this Saturday? :D

Walk Away and All Hands On Deck Part 1 are good though.

The latest in my ongoing "bump threads of bands I like" saga. Listen to Between Order and Model. NOW. 4 tracks of brilliance. And don't think I don't like TDTT, because that rules too. FYI, they've split from Atlantic Records and are working on a new EP independently. Their merch store fucks me about, now I get nothing. Boo.

Hi there everyone
It's with sadness that we announce Gareth Davies has left Funeral for a Friend. As some of you may know, Gareth has been living in America for the past couple of years, and recently got married. Ultimately, the strain of travelling between continents has taken it's toll and Gareth made the decision that it would be in the best interests of himself, his family and Funeral to leave the band. We totally respect and understand his choice, wish him all the best in his future and we thank him for being part of our lives for the past 6 years. We'll miss him.
We'd like to take this opportunity therefore to welcome Gavin Burrough (Ghostlines/Hondo Maclean/The Future) to the family. Gav is a super-tall, super-talented dude whom we've all known a long time and we're sure you're gonna love him as much as we do.
Weird fact - Gav was born on the same day as Gareth. AND both their names begin with a G. Crazy stuff.
Look forward to seeing you on tour.
Love

Shame, really. Gareth was usually the life of the live shows along with Matt. Still, wish the new guy all the best (and he's got previous in other Welsh bands, which helps )
In other news they've uploaded another song on their MySpace page and also added the a video for Kicking and Screaming too, so that's two new FFAF tunes. The LP is out on October 13th.

It's "available", if anyone's interested.
Before anyone asks I'm buying it first thing monday. I just feel like sh*t at the moment so fancied something to cheer me up. Glad I did, as this is one quality LP.
Dope-ass. I'll probably wait until xmas though :( Damn it coming out a week after my birthday.
Anyone going to the tour in March?
I fancy going
FUCK YES. Finishing off their greatest hits tour with a date in Cardiff.
Anyone else going to go?

went and saw them last night at cardiff uni, one of darren's last shows.
a good gig, Matt Tuck from BFMV came out and did a song with them, that was the big surprise. They also played everything from Casually Dressed and loads of old songs. :p
Old thread is old.
