I seen her last year at Slane, I thought she was bad...really bad, but that wasn't just me, I think most people apart the testoterone fuelled males got bored...And she's playing another festival here this year, at least there's other stages at that one though.

I didn't think much of her when she performed at V last year. Although, looking back, it probably didn't help that my friend hates her music and so was pestering me throughout. Ho hum.

What about Björk? Tori Amos? oh and Fiona Apple? though.
Do they do nothing for you?

hm. bjork is sure in a league of her own, though.
Hmm. Tori Amos can sometimes and Fiona Apple occasionally.
What about Beth Gibbons from Portishead?
I quite like Norah Jones and Jem... but purely for their voices - their music doesn't appeal.
Istya
23-07-2004, 01:11 AM
Jem? Surely you don't mean the 80's cartoon star of the Holograms that was my idol since age 5?
Yes. I do believe Bjork would have to be cannonized if she wasn't so pleasantly odd.

Nope, thankfully I do not. ;) :p I mean the new singer who tends to like singing in the oc... alot.
At least she doesn't just rely on some pants formula like most artists are beginning to do. Creativity is the thing I seek in music, and you can definitely find it in her music. She's not all that sane, though, really.
Istya
23-07-2004, 01:34 AM
Well, I've never actually seen the OC so that explains it.

It reminds me of me, alot of the time. She's just so inventive.
Yeah, I'd advise you not to. I did watch it, got addicted, still don't LIKE it, as such. More of an addiction. The music in it is quite good, sometimes. The entire layout is much better than any other teen-drama. Still crappish.

She can sing. She has got one of the strongest female voices I've ever heard. 'Who will love me now' doesn't sound like 'The Letter', and 'Who the fuck' sounds nothing like 'Good Fortune'... and you can switch those four songs around in any way. I can't take what you're saying seriously, because if that can make you fall asleep, then you might just snooze during armagedon. You can dislike her singing. You can dislike the power of her voice and you can dislike her excitement - but they do exist.
PS- you know I don't mind you and i'm not trying to be a dick or act superior... that's just what i think!

Was anyone at the Manchester Apollo gig the other night? I was amazed by:
Her voice
Her sexiness
Her beautiful red boots
Her gratitude to applause after each and every song
The emptiness of the venue
The sexy beast of a man I was stood next to
The politeness and gentleman-ness of the men there
The threat of having my camera confiscated
Her robbing of my past hair do. Only hers is better. Bint.

I saw Polly live in London on Monday evening, for the second time (though the first time was with a different backing band as it was the "A Woman A Man Walked By" tour), and I must say, the new album sounds just as good live as it does on record. Quite a moving and profound experience, if I'm honest; I really think, lyrically, this is probably one of her most poignant albums, with a clear message. Wonderful artist and is rightly respected as such.

saw her on the Sunday at Troxy  she was awesome wasn't she?
now i can't stop listening to Let England Shake. totally brilliant. the new radiohead album is completely overshadowed by this (funnily enough, that happened last time around too).

What a striking album Let England Shake is! I haven't stopped listening to it all weekend. I'm going out on a limb here, I think it's her best work.
