Mogwai Reveal Mr. Beast Tracklist
Matthew Solarski reports:
March 6 marks the return of the mighty Mogwai, the Scottish post-rock combo of choice for dreamers young and old. On that hallowed date, Matador will unleash Mr. Beast, the revered fivesome's fifth album proper, featuring ten epic tracks and described by Mogwai manager and erstwhile Creation Records guru Alan McGee as "probably the greatest art rock record that I've been involved in since My Bloody Valentine's Loveless", and "possibly better than Loveless." So, like, post-phenomenal.
Those in the know are forecasting a return to form for the Mogwai, apparently in part a reaction to 2003's deliberately toned-down Happy Music For Happy People. Stuart Braithwaite declares in a Matador press release that he and his bandmates "really missed making a lot of noise!" He goes on to admit: "Although only about 25 percent of the new album is actually noise, that's the one thing we consciously had in mind when we set out."
Nevertheless, what Mr. Beast ain't is Young Team (Reprise), as Braithwaite and company also strove to expand their sonic horizons with this latest release. Since the band's inception, says Stuart, "we knew we were in this for the long haul and we knew we wanted to be making worthwhile, important music until the day our hands stop working, so it serves our purpose to challenge ourselves, on every level." And a noble pursuit that is.
Recorded in Mogwai's Castle of Doom studios and produced by Tony Doogan, Mr. Beast features contributions from composer Craig Armstrong, who lends keyboards to the track "I Chose Horses", and Tetsuya Fukagawa of Japanese post-hardcore epic-mongers Envy (signed to Mogwai's own Rock Action label), who shares his lovely vocals on the same track.
And now, the numbers of the Beast:
01 Auto Rock
02 Glasgow Mega-Snake
03 Acid Food
04 Travel Is Dangerous
05 Team Handed
06 Friend of the Night
07 Emergency Trap
08 Folk Death 95
09 I Chose Horses
10 We're No Here
yep.
Anyone got linkage to a leaked version of the album? :horns:

I guess i haven't given them much of a chance, but I don't really enjoy mogwai at all. I like Sigur ros, GYBE, and EITS, but don't see the point in mogwai. The songs i listened to (and quickly deleted) had no interesting change in sound from start to finish. Boo

I remember going to this site that had a bunch of Mogwai songs you could listen to on it. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the official Mogwai site. I heard a song that started off bass and then had guitar harmonics come in after that. This was the first Mogwai song and the bass seems to be pretty prominent in it. From what I've heard of their other stuff, it seems more guitar and piano driven. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out what this more bass driven song was. Does anyone know?

They don't sound liek GYBE, it's just that they've utilized similar methods of constructing songs (long crescendos) with similar instruments. Don't make em similar that much when you actually listen to em.

Would probably recommend 'Mr. Beast' as a good starting place!

Or you could try their 2010 live album, "Special Moves". It's live but it has got some of their best songs perfomed really professionally.

Just start at the beginning, if you don't like Young Team then you should probably just move on.

Young Team is indeed a good place to start.

Also, what's the deal with this band.. I thought thought they were an instrumental band, but wiki says they have 3 vocalists... but then says they are instrumental, with a quote from a vand memeber about their "lack of lyrics"
:wtf:

But then again I instantly loved Young Plan, and it formed a huge part of my teenage years, while I listened to Mr Beast about 3 or 4 times before I felt slightly bored with it. It's all about personal taste!

Hmm... A bit of variation there... Would the live album work?

Dno, I started with Mr.Beast, then Happy Songs for Happy People, then everything else on epic proportions. B-sides are good too, 'Stupid Prick gets Chased by the Police and Loses His Slut Girlfriend' is the most hilarious song name I've ever come across, and 'Stereodee' is a fucking mental b-side, and I do mean mental as fucking unbelievable.

Agreed, there's something a little less orchestral about Mogwai, to my mind. Perhaps more accessible too.
Love the new album title.
Not really listened to this band enough, but I've only heard Young Team very briefly.

My favorite ! I do hope they will play it at the concert in Lille (France). But I don't think so. :/
I'm so disapointed about "Hardcore will never die but you will"..
Never been a huge fan, but their last album is pretty good... :erm:
I have Mr. Beast, it's a good album.
Methinks that's the only album I have but I adore it. I should really look further into this matter.
