I found myself in a most unusual condition after Wednesday night's concert in LA: at a loss for words. The euphoria persists but sadly has faded a bit; but I will hold that feeling deep within and let it live on. What superlatives can describe that performance? Passion, energy, power; awesome, searing, intense. Some things just must be experienced to be understood. For the concert experience of a lifetime, I sincerely thank you.

On behalf of Kirk and Monique, thank you, Muse, for sharing your night on stage with their special moment. Many of us die-hard Muse fans, who had spent the better part of the day getting to know each other as we waited in line on Wilshire Blvd, learned of Kirk's plan and hoped you would allow him to propose to her on stage. But as the encores came to a close and we saw no sign of an opportunity for Kirk's big moment, a pang of disappointment began to taint the otherwise superlative evening. So thank you for Kirk and Monique, and for all of us in the audience who shared their elation. Kirk and Monique, may you share a lifetime of happiness together.

Chris, Dom, Matt--thank you also for being so approachable, so genuine with your fans, both before and after the concert. I imagine at times it must feel that each of us is trying to take away a little piece of you and there soon will be nothing left. But that's not why your fans are so dedicated, standing outside for and hour or two in the cold just to talk to you for a moment, take a photo, get an autograph. I think most of us just need to connect on a more personal human level with the men who have created the music which has affected us so profoundly. Dom, thank you for staying a couple of extra minutes to ensure that my son Brian had his photo taken with you to commemorate his first Muse concert. Chris, thank you for your sincere concern and interest in my son Colin's soccer injury. Matthew, thank you for your priceless expression, in reaction to my, shall we say, unconventional description of the concert. You are all genuine and human and kind and understanding of our needs as fans. Don't ever lose that, and we will always be here for you.

After your concerts in London next week, I hope you can all take a little time off, rest awhile and nourish the body and spirit, and share time with friends and family, the people you love and who love you.

Thank you.

Always, Mary, the "MuseMom" in Tacoma, WA

I'd like to second that thank you.

I've been to seven shows now, and each one has been a treat. Everytime I see you guys live I walk away with a feeling of elation, and genuine happiness. I have not stopped smiling since the first show Wednesday night. I went home smiling, I went to sleep smiling, I walk around smiling, I talk on the phone while smiling. If I keep smiling my face is just going to be stuck this way permanently. As I've told my friends who always tell me to think positive or "think fuzzy white bunnies" -- my fuzzy white bunnies have arrived. I am always in high spirits after one of your shows, and it usually lasts for a good long while.

I notice that Muse fans generally seem to be pretty positive and up beat anyway. The fact your fan base seems to be pretty kewl in general made waiting in line near on 8 or 12 hours bareable. Like definitely attracts like, and your music is positive without being cheesey; emotionally charged and powerful without being angry; and I think that says a lot for who you all are. It certainly attracts interesting people anyway.

I think it is awesome you let Kirk and Monique up on the stage for that proposal. If anything it was a wonderful touch to an unbelieveable day/evening. As gocanux said, it was great to be able to share their happiness.

And thanks for signing my drawings. :) I don't claim to be a fantastic artist or anything, but I thought drawing portraits of you guys and asking you to autograph them would be way kewler, and more personal than an autograph on a cd cover. It seemed you all liked them well enough, and I was really pleased with that. I was kinda worried they woudln't go over well, but it seemed to be the opposite. I fixed up Dom's portrait so it doesn't look so retarded. It looks much more complete now.

I'm working on a few more. I'll be seeing you guys in Tempe, Az. Last concert I can afford to go to. =D

Wishing you guys continued sucess, happiness, and fun;
Chanel

Nothing new to add, really. Just want to keep this on the first page so hopefully the band will have a chance to read it.

And a sincere wish for a Seattle stop on your next tour, Muse!

And I'm wishing for a San Diego stop. ;)

Come on guys you knooooooow you luuuuuv San Diego. Not sure what the Spreckle's theater capacity is, but I'm sure it would be a good place for you guys to have a show. :) It's like the Wiltern in that it's an old theater.

I do have family in Seattle though, so if I can round up the airfare maybe I'll swing by your neck of the woods if they're in town. :)

Come on up, Chanel; I seem to now be the official MuseMom. Kirk (of marriage proposal fame) now calls me "Mom"---I have lots of kids all over, and they all love Muse!
There are so many great venues up here. My preference is for a venue about the size of the Wiltern (or the Moore or Paramount in Seattle) as opposed to those huge arena shows. But a show at the Gorge on the Columbia River would be perfect; what a setting for a concert.

I'm surprised there haven't been more additions to this thread, but then all you LA folks are recovering from the 2 Wiltern shows and geting psyched for the Amphi concert tonight. Not just good times, but the best of times!

I think most of the LA folk are over int he gigs and tour section swaping photos and footage. I got some clips of Hysteria from night 1 from Jasmine. Hysteria rules. One of my favorite songs ever.

I drove up from San Diego for the show though. There was another girl I met in line from San Diego. She actually literally lives down the road from me. If we had known each other before we woulda driven up together and been there at like 5AM. Instead we settled for 2PM hehehe. She's a stickler on getting to the front like I am. I can enjoy a good show from any point in the room, but for me it is so much more enjoyable whe you don't have ot pull out binoculars to see the band. :P She has the same take. Hence the willingness to be there hours in advance to garuntee a prime standing position.

Well, we're either absolutely nuts, or just plain dedicated.

Muse is my favorite band, ever. Of course I'd be there at the ass crack of dawn to get up front.

Ness, you must see them live! Orders of magnitude beyond their CD's, which are of course amazing.

I would agree that Muse fans are a great bunch. I met all kinds of people at the concert, m/f, straight/gay, all races and ages, and all share a common bond.

Then have rest for a while, enjoy xmas and newyearsday with everyone they love...

its so sad, my week of seeing muse 3 times is over :'( They are just so amazing, they blow me away. I can't wait until I see them again. I've been playing my video clips over and over. Yesterday I went to Amoeba on sunset and bought the hullabaloo 2cd's. They actually had a couple copies of Origin if some people don't have it and can't find it.

At the kroq show yesterday the lead singer from jimmy eat world even said it was really lame going after muse because they are so good and make everyone else look bad. and the guy from taking back sunday also gave them a really nice complement. They are going to get huge here very soon methinks.

This is the first thread i have added to, i only signed myself up as a member a couple of days ago. My muse obsession started last christmas when i got my first album, Origin of Symetry. I was immediately transfixed, transported, taken away into another world (cheesy stuff right?!?). In the following moth i bought Absolution, Showbiz and Hullabaloo. As the months went by the obsession grew. Feeling Good got me through a nasty break up, Muscle Museum got me up in the morning, Hysteria got me dancing at a club (UNHEARD OF!). i cried to Unintended, i threw myself around to Plug in Baby. But untill the summer, i knew nothing of the true glory of Muse.

T in the Park 2004, i had made my move toward the front of the stage during the wu tang clan (i suffered them for muse), i managed to get even further forward during the libertines (i survived them for muse) and then there i was, Slap Bang in the Middle, about 5 meters from the front barrier.

The anticipation alone was more than i could have imagined before then but it was nothing compared to the appearence of the band that had reshaped my life, and the opening lines of Hysteria. Dom's pounding of the drums reverberated in my stomach, Chris's base line sent shivers down my spine and then the moment i had been longing for wince i first heard them announced for T, Matt's voice.

The whole performance was unrivaled, easily the best night of my life but there was one moment in particular that shook me. Bliss was bliss. I felt like i was falling endlesly with no fear of hitting the ground (Matt in the video). I was totally overwhelmed, about mid way through i held my hand in my heads, still screaming along with the performance. i felt lighter, filled, blissful. this is the story of my blissfull enlightenment, and i want to thank everyone who made it happen.

I wish i could have afforded a ticket for Earl's Court and a plane ticket down but instead i am having to make do with my own intense recolection, everytime i hear that song.

One last thing. COME BACK TO SCOTLAND!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. I'm having a Muse withdrawl :p What a great week it was, though I'll probably need another week to recover. I completely lost my voice during Stockholm last night...that was fun. Anyways THANK YOU Muse for such great performances and such a wonderful week. Happy Holidays!

As Muse reaches the end of their tour in the USA, I would also like the opportunity of
sharing my wonderful experience meeting them.

On Dec 2, I flew down to Orlando to see them play at the HOB. This was
meant to have been my son's 15 bday gift but his illness did not allow him to
travel. With the Absolution cd cover in hand I went to the show hoping
to maybe get it signed. Being the extraordinary guys that they are toward their fans,
they readily agreed to not only sign it but also take pictures
with me to bring back. Not many (if any) would go out of their way and be
so thoughful and caring. My heart was and still is overwhelmed and I am
forever thankful. The concert was absolutely spectacular and I'll be sure to attend many
many more!

Matt your voice is so pure it touches one's soul and your guitar playing
brilliant, Dom you're a fantastic drummer and Chris love your backup vocals and awesome
guitar. Thanks for blessing us with your extraordinary music.

You've worked so hard throughout this past year, you're a great band and deserve all the
success in the world.

You have given my son and I the time of our lives!
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Please let me add an additional word of thanks to Matt for bringing my son Colin up to be in a group photo with the band. He was standing on his crutches (soccer injury) shyly in the back of the group of people talking to Muse before the concert on Wednesday, and Matt beckoned for him to come forward and have the photo. The pictures didn't come out too well, but the gesture is well remembered by my son; it made his day!

hi gocanux...out of curiosity...did they play Newborn that nite?
i wasnt sure if it was gonna be on their set list for almost acoustic so i e-mailed Kevin and Bean to ask them during their visit to the KROQ studio last thursday. i was begging and pleaing them to squeeze it in...i've been a fan for only a couple years and KROQ listeners needed to be rocked out to Newborn. ...Bean replied back saying he passed my message to them and they said 'they'll try' ...regardless if they were going to play it or not...they were my highlight and in my oppinion MUSE stole the show of nite 1. :)

Yes, they played Newborn (see 1st page of Wiltern 12/8 and 12/9 threads for complete setlists) and I've had it in my head ever since. The live version is orders of magnitude above and beyond the one on the CD, which as we all know if fantastic.

I was chatting with my 1st patient today, who wasn't familiar with Muse but said her boyfriend had Absolution on his Christmas list. It amazes me how people here are either completely unaware of Muse or huge fans. So I told her to get him Origin of Symmetry (if she can find it; only at funky stores that sell imports around here. Why doesn't WB re-release it here??) which would be his best gift ever! And she promised to take him to their next Seattle-area concert, which hopefully will be soon! I feel like some kind of Muse evangelist. I know my sons are, and have converted their friends into rabid Muse fans--like there's anyother kind.

Since everyone loves Newborn, including myself, I found this quote from Matt on that song:(hope it's real and if not, don't shoot the messanger)
"It's about a semi-fear of the evolution of technology, and how in reality it's destroying all humanity. My fear is that we can't control it because it's moving faster than we are, so the song's setting myself in a location in the future where the body is no longer important and everyone's plugged into a network. The opening line "link it to the world" is connecting yourself on a worldwide scale and being born into another reality".
I also like Butterflies and Hurricanes a lot, I love the way it builds up and
how it takes you into "opposites" of thought and music.

Gocanux, have just read this thread, been away for a bit.

One of the nicer ones.

I echo, and emphatically agree with all the comments about Muse's concerts, and the guys themselves. Humanity is what it's all about. And their music? Sublime to the profane...

Enjoy, all you Earls Court concert go'ers... I'll be sev thousand feet in the air on a plane by then ...sigh.

Of course, the MRI showed a massive bone bruise and severe MCL sprain, but no major cartilage damage or dreaded ACL tear, but I'm convinced it was Muse who made him well! And you're absolutely right, Chris, soccer is a brutal sport.

Hey I'm glad he's better! I'm glad he didn't tear anything too!! Sounds like he just needs to keep resting for a while and he'll be alright! :)

I've had ACL reconstruction on both my knees due to skateboarding accidents. THe last surgery ( a year and a half ago) was the worst as I refused to get it fixed for over two years, and then one day my leg just stopped working so I had ot have surgery. By then my knee was so mangled inside they had to remove a huge chunk of the meniscus, and it's taken just about a year for me to get back to any form of normality. I still don't have the same kind of strength in my quad I used to though.

I think it's early enough in their careers that they can afford to experiment with different styles and with that comes the excitement of doing something totally new and different. The question is will the fans embrace it or are they expecting an "absolution" look alike?!? What's your take on it?

I think they will know to just make the music that is in them, no matter what that involves. There must be an incredible amount of pressure from record companies, etc, to produce a "successful" CD. I hope Muse never succumbs to that kind of commercial influence and simply write/play the music that comes from within. And whatever that is, knowing the amazing music we have known from them so far, even if it is completely different, the fans, at least the true ones, will respond.

ocean5
16-12-2004, 02:48 PM

wow.i dont think there's much i can say since everyone has pretty much said it all. we all know the guys are great and i loved the 12/9 concert so very much. that was my very first concert and im so glad it was a muse concert. it gave me a whole new vision of music and it really showed me that im totally different from everyone else. at least what i like. as Channel said, i could not stop smiling after that. i as well slept with a smile on replaying the whole concert in my mind. for three days i talked about it as if it had happened a minute before. i bet everyone i know is pretty much aware of all the details now...i made sure everyone does lol.

it's really amazing seeing how their music could change people. i asked my bf to go with me to the concert and he's not much into muse (at least not as much as i've always been) and it was funny how he changed from wanting to sell his ticket right when we were in line to wanting to go to a concert again. and he's not the type of person you'd see at a rock concert. i know he was moved by some songs and after seeing all the fans jumping around and singing to all the songs. it was really nice knowing he shared that joy with me because i was really really happy to be there i felt so lucky.

i wish i would've had time to stay after and get to meet the guys. i really wanted to see them up close...or closer since i was right on front lol. and at least say hi and hear them speak to me. i guess i'll wait for the next time they come to town and i know i'll wait as long as i have to after the show. oh and thank you Dom for beating up that drumstick lol...i sleep with it everynight ever since i got it LOL. i still cant belive i own something you touched. i love that.

Matt you rock!...you're a total rock star seriously. when he came closer to the crowd during new born i was totally astonished. i was hypnotised seriously. i didnt even take a picture. i was that paralized lol... he's my god. im turning MUSElim lol...that's official

Most are region 0 encoding which means they will play on any dvd player anywhere in the world. The trick is in the PAL formatting, BUT I think most DVD players can read PAL format anyway....and if not, you can always buy DVD software for your computer which should fix that issue.

I have the Butterfiles DVD single and it works fine on my laptop.

Here's another article called "A day in the life of Matt Bellamy"
QUOTE
“I’m not a very good cook. I’m pretty good at making pasta, I like to make it from scratch, with flour and egg and all that kind of thing. It’s my favourite food, and homemade pasta’s really cheap and nice and really quick to knock up. Get some flour, its like 100 grams of flour and one egg per person, mix it in your hands together real fast, stick it in the machine, the manual machine, wind it through, get a load of spaghetti and your off. Bit of seafood in there, bit of tomato sauce, whatever you want. I make ravioli as well. Out of a week I probably eat pasta four nights."
“I’ve got a flat in London, I’ve had it for a long time, but I haven’t actually had a chance to live in it much. Any time I’ve got off I spend on holidays. Well, not on holidays, but my girlfriend lives in Italy and I spend time with her family and stuff. Its only really in the last few weeks that I’ve felt the flat was home- I’ve bought a few rugs and posters, its got a bit more personality to it now. My days recently at home in London, I’ve been getting up everyday and going to the IKEA store and just buying loads of furniture and then coming back and building it all; and then you realise there are bits missing and go back again (laughs)
“If you were to go into my flat you’d see…well, you’d have to walk up four flights of stairs to get up there, its on the top floor of a regular house in London. I’ve got a room that’s full of maps: a map of the world, map of Italy, map of England, map of Europe, and city maps of London, really detailed city maps- I’ve got problems with direction! And I like to study maps to try and get an idea of where I’ve been."
“I’ve got another little room with a piano and a mixing desk. I write a lot of music at home, especially those first few days when I get back from being on tour. All the ideas that come to mind on tour, you just try and remember bits and bobs and make little demos on a cassette recorder."
“Go up the spiral staircase to the bedroom, and that’s kind of my girlfriend’s zone, she’s turned it into a bit of a female boudoir [laughs]. It’s not really my kind of place. Well it is, I like sleeping in there, but its all her kind of stuff and its full of clothes and shoes. My clothes are just strewn around the house in general really."
“I’ve got a load of fish, tropical fish, I like looking after them. A few of them always die when I go away on tour [laughs], you’ve gotta come back and clean out all the dead ones! That sounds pretty rough doesn’t it?! No, I’ve got an automatic feeder, so that usually works."
“At night in London I’ll probably go out and watch a gig. Living in London’s pretty good cos theres always bands playing- there’s always classical music concerts, there’s rock bands, there’s jazz, every night theres something to choose from. I only get recognised if I go to a rock concert. I get recognised quite a lot so I just wear a fake beard and a pair of fake glasses [laughs]. Have I ever really worn a disguise? Yeah, once or twice, when I went to a Strokes concert at Brixton Academy. I didn’t go to the extreme of wearing a beard, but I just had a pair of fake glasses on."
“I don’t think I’d move away completely from London. But the truth is I want to move to New York, maybe next year, maybe next May. I’ve always wanted to spend six months or a year living there, maybe write some songs, get inspired by the area and make the next album there. I say things like this and they always change. But generally I’ve moved house quite a lot- from the age of 14, I was living with my mum and my nan and we used to move house every six months, so I kind of got used to moving. I kind of like change, so whenever I feel grounded I get the desire to move on quite quickly. Has this helped me cope with touring? Well, I think being on tour’s not as difficult as people would think it would be, because you’re travelling around usually with your friends, and one of the things that makes you feel at home is your friends. You can feel at home in very faraway places, just cos you’ve got all your friends around you. I think that’s quite a good thing”.
Sound tracks: Five records which make Matt’s day…

The Mars Volta- De-Loused in the Comatorium
Queens of the Stone Age- Songs for the Deaf
Refused- New Noise Theology
Millionaire- Outside the Simian Flock
Rage Against The Machine- Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium

Different is OK; wouldn't want them to keep doing the same thing and become bored and stop touring. I for one am curious to see what else lurks in Mathew's fertile imagination!

Thank you.

Always, your "Aunt Mary" in Tacoma, WA (aka The Lady of the Lake)

at least no one asks me why i always keep most of my stuff in boxes.
the only time my stuff makes it out into laying around in the general arrangement is stuff i hang on the walls or stuff i use everyday, like dishes.

that's kind of sad. lol
but i don't miund. i have some constants, like music.

sorry. just my opinion.
uhhhhh... whoo, go muse...

After I lived in London for a couple of years I have moved fairly constantly. I travelled a lot between London and San Francisco so I got used to the idea of travelling light, and not having many belongings. And even now, even though I live in San DIego, I move every six months to a year. In fact I'm moving Monday to a new apartment with a friend...

I don't think it's so bad really. I think you can learn valuable things from moving so often...I learned to place value in things that aren't material...you know, like everything I care about is really interalized, and I focus a lot on trying to remember things as clearly and as much as possible. I have a good memory cuz of it. Also teaches you how useless things liek furniture can be....

Moving is kind of a good thing for me at times too....it's like a new beginning, an excuse for a new beginning. Yeah...it can be a good thing.

I may have already posted this, but the morning DJ at the main Seattle station put Absolution 2nd on his list of top CD's from 2004----and it would have been first if it had actually been released in 2004. He put a Seattle band in 1st (Modest Mouse); guess you have to promote the locals.

Where are all the thank-you's from you Earls Court people???

Now that they've finally decided to play Hysteria at Kroq is has been number one on their daily countdown. Also everytime Tiro or Hysteria are played the DJ's always mention how awesome and how they stole the show at Almost Acoustic night one. After a years of bugging and bragging to them about Muse I can't help but think " I told you so" when I listen to them talk about their performance.

My experience was so much more intense and amazing at the LA Wiltern show than at the EndFest at a huge outdoor amphitheater. But given the chance, I'd repeat either one in a heartbeat! How about a concert at the Gorge in central Washington? What a setting for Muse that would be.....

Yeah, I think a venue of 2-3k people is good enough. Maybe 5k at most. 20k would...make it hard to get that personal feel, though I"m sure I"d still enjoy it.

I want them to come back to Brick by Brick. ;) LOL, that palce is too tiny for them now....I think the Spreckles Theater would do them all right...and then there's COX for when they get really big. That sounds wrong...

I sure hope someone on the site posts a link to the recording, for those of us who had to work. As I write this, I can see fropm my office window the late afternoon sun creating an eerie wintry glow on the glaciers of Mt Rainier, our local 14,500 ft volcano. Odd to think that it is nearly midnight in England, and the lads are probably either exhausted from touring and ready to pack it in, or energized for one last great post-concert party. Thanks, Muse, for the best concerts ever, and we are all looking forward to the next tour and CD!

For those of you who were at work and couldn't listen to the broadcast
if you go to invictus.softmeg.com and into the media downloads you will be able to hear most of the songs played at Earls. If you go into the videos you can see and hear their new song "A crying shame". I think that "Des" (under the Ottawa video) is a superior song, but I am so happy to hear anything new. It was a fabulous concert and once again Muse did it wth style and took their fans into their last transe of 2004.

Finally I'm putting in my humble two cents.

I had originally planned to read all of the replies from this thread but if I wait to do that and THEN post well....

Obviously what ever words I may say will have probably already been said, but here goes:

My husband introduced (more like tortured) me at first. He first heard of Muse back in MEXICO (of all places). We actually met online and over the course of about a year we met in person, fell in love, and got married. During our online chats he would sing to me (not a great voice) but I thought it was cute. When we moved in together he would play Muse non-stop. Hear me out first: when we first moved in I got annoyed, hahaha, but one night I couldn't sleep and he put absolution in and I fell asleep. I think it was all subliminal! After that night I couldn't stop playing Muse. I don't know about the rest of you but Muse is....I'm at a loss for words. THE MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. THANK YOU MATT, DOM AND CHRIS!!!!! GRACIAS POR SU MUSICA MARAVILLOSA!
THANKS FOR DECEMBER 9TH AT THE WILTERN!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND COME BACK TO LA SOON!

The truth hides in those words. It's a conspriracy by the unseen controllers of our destinies. We have all become addicted to the music of Muse and now are being subtly manipulated. How many of us wake each morning with one of their songs in our head, carry the songs with us all day, fall asleep with the music playing silently in our heads. It's all a conspiracy, I tell you! Maybe it's the aliens....

Sarine, which one were you? I am the blondish mom who was out there (many people describe me as being "out there") in the so-called cold----they call this winter?---waiting for the band with my sons, one of whom was on crutches. For some of us it has become nearly an obsession. I now feel the need to listen to other music just to clear my head from all the Muse tunes playing constantly in there. I arrived home yesterday afternoon with great intention to write cards and wrap gifts, but Brian had his 2 Muse DVD's (one of music vids from England, one of live gigs he downloaded---and I know I'm getting copies of both for my Christmas gift!) playing, so I became a useless puddle for at least an hour!

I bought a pair of Vic Firth drumsticks today. Now if only I could afford a drumkit.

:)

And my friend has been teaching me how to play the piano. I've only had about five hours of instruction in my life and I'm playing some classic Beethoven, and well, pretty much whatever my friend can teach me. She's got the theme to The Piano down, so she's teaching me that now.

I haven't learned how to read music. Well, I know how to read it from back in the day when I played the violin, but it's been years really so it takes me a while when I see a note...and piano sheet music is funky. There a lot of things I don' tunderstand. So I pretty much learn by mimicing what my friend does, and by ear. Tis interesting. I love playing actually. I wish I had my own upright piano, but I don't. So I have to go over to her place, or to the Foundary...the art gallery where her mom works.

Hopefully I'll get good enough to figure out the piano bits to muse songs.

My daughter has been learning piano for 4 years and we have a hard time reading some of the sheets. I end up having to help her with "hand" extensions. Maybe you could try that with your friend and find it a bit easier until you get the hang of it. If you played the violin, which is perhaps one of the hardest instruments to play, you can certainly tackle the piano. Good luck! And when you hear yourself play these wonderful pieces, it's all worth it.

What are hand extensions?

My friend doesn't read music all that well either, and she has been playing for six years, hehehe.

I read music well as a violinist, I've just lost it from not using it. I really don't think the violin is that hard actually. I had loads of trouble learning the guitar. I play the violin mounds better than the guitar. I really think the guitar is probably one of the hardest instruments to learn.

yeah, violin IS hard.
i'd love to learn piano, but the only pianos around the place are 2 (maybe 1, my parents might have burned the other one by now during cookouts in the summer  ) and the one i know for sure is out there is in such bad shape it's not even worth fixing.
i might steal my brother's keyboard he never uses and see about gettin me some lessons though. :D

BTW, i wanted to learn piano since i was little, but it hink it'd be nifty to play some muse music on it.

I know chords and stuff, but I can't transition well, and my fingers always end up overlapping other strings so the chord doesn't sound as it should, etc.
Can't play solos or anything...except minimum, I can play minimum...that one muse song....and bits of dead star and the intro to plug in baby. Beyond that I can't od much.

Naw, it's the nose for me. It's weird. It's thin then kinda bubbles out at the end, and is proportionately larger than other features on his face. His chin is kinda weird too cuz of the muscles attached to it...when he sings or smiles the feature is kinda raised...and then there's the cleft. I love drawing his eyes though hehehe. Actually noses are the hardest part of a face for me.

I did a drawing of Kurt when I was 13/14 or so. Don't know what happened to it as it was part of a school project. I wasn't in the habit of keeping my drawings then either. I just kinda threw them away. Did some of Speilberg too...and the Jurassic Park peeps cuz I loved that move at the time....I was about 12. I stopped drawing when was around 13 or so....and only recently got back into it, like within the last six months. It's taken me a bit, but I am more comfortable drawing now, and the quality is starting to get back to where it was 10 years ago when I quit. I was really good at drawing back then...far beter than I am now. Probably due to constnatly being in practice. Now, I'm just a bit rusty.

I have two portraits I've done of Matt, one of chris, one of dom. I like them...I'm actually really proud of them since they seem to have got the band's approval. I want to do a full piece with all three of them on one sheet, and hopefully get that autographed someday, maybe. We shall see.

i've been drawing all my life.
it gets worse when i'm in class because i doodle incessantly...
but i've gotten some pretty good poems and drawing ideas out of it.
can you tell when i get bored i get creative?
day before yesterday i was freaking out my friend and this other person that was over by going on a completely random anything that popped into my head jag for 20 minutes or so.
but people had been smoking pot, so that might have added to it.

i basically taught myself everything i know about drawing, since i haven't been in that many art classes, at least not where they taught you anything other than how to emulate other artists boooooooooooooring... (i was one of the only ones to ever use the school's free project thing, so i got out of THAT crap)

i went to a figure drawing class in college for about 1/3 of a semester, and that helped me out a lot in some ways, but didn't really change my drawingstyle.
it would piss off my teacher that i draw things out so fast, no base drawing, no measuring, no nothing. all by eye baby.

the only reason i managed to get into that class was she looked at some of the crap i'd been doing at home, cause i didn't technically have the pre-req's to get in the class. lol
funny i had to drop out after workign so hard to get in. i didn't have the time to keep up on the homework drawings... :$

Guitar can be seen in two different ways, it can be easy if you just want to cover other people's music( Well covering simple chords from basic songs), it gets harder when its your turn to create something. Piano is pretty hard but at the same time it's a lot of fun. I can't deal with the drums ( except fo the basic stuff) I leave that to my couz ;) ...as for drawing ....well, I can't even make stick figures look decent.

My husband has asked me a few times now...."why are you now so obsessed?" Like he doesn't already know the answer.

Basically...seeing them live is what ancored the obsession

You're right, Isabel, Muse does beccome an obsession. And the live experience is so far beyond even their recorded works. Your husband should know beter than to ask!

All these talented and creative people make me feel inadequate. I was born utterly without talent in those areas, but I'm thankful that Muse more than make up for my lack. I'm quite good at what I CAN do (like performing major surgery!) but when I sing somethimes I hit notes that scare me and definitely alarm Muldoon, the cat. My grandmother from Cork, Ireland, was an opera singer, but no one seems to have inherited her talent. Can't draw or play an istrument either; oh well.

Drawing can be learned, you just have to want to learn it. Granted many artists have learned the basiscs of shadow, perspective, etc, long before adulthood, these are simple concepts that can be taught to adults.

A lot of people say they'll never be able to do calculus or whatever, but I was a physics major for a long time and while it was hard for me, I still worked through it.

People can do just about anything if they put their mind to it. At least that's my belief.

Hand extensions is a little code my daughter and I made up when we play together on the piano - I play the left hand and she plays the right.

It seems you're a very gifted person. As for myself, I couldn't draw portraits if my life depended on it, but I can paint watercolors. I think everybody has an artistic bone in them, and we just have to find it and explore it.

Being able to learn the mechanics of drawing or music may enable anyone to do these things, at least to a degree, but many of us will never learn to do them WELL. I have managed some nice pastel still-lifes, but for me it was a very frustrating experience and involved way too much effort for the result produced. That's where natural talent comes in, so the activity (drawing, playing an instrument) becomes natural and fluid, and the results reflect it. Some of us are right-brain dominant and some left (for the life of me, I can never remember which is which). I have become comfortable with the fact that I may never produce anything artistic, but I can still appreciate those things. On the other hand, for me calculus was a fun class, like doing mathematical crossword puzzles. It's our innate differences which make it all so interesting! As a parent this becomes even more facinating, as you see the differences develop between kids who share the same genetic and environmental influences.

Until two nights ago I thought something very similar, attempting to draw was frustrating then I sat down and started doodling the finished product was something loosely based on the Absolution angel silhouettes and for the first time ever I had produced exactly what I had set out to produce.

And another reason I have to thank you, Chris, Dom and Matthew: you have cured my son! He was on crutches at the concert just last week, and now he walks. HE WALKS! Thank you for this miracle; now he doesn't have to play Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol this year.

Of course, the MRI showed a massive bone bruise and severe MCL sprain, but no major cartilage damage or dreaded ACL tear, but I'm convinced it was Muse who made him well! And you're absolutely right, Chris, soccer is a brutal sport.

This post of mine was several pages back, Blissfully_Enlightened, so you might have missed it. But this certainly should qualify as a miracle!

Ugh, I absolutely despise Math. Anyways, gocanux, I'm sure you can create something very artistic. I know several people that think they're not artistic, the problem is they think something needs to be "pretty" looking or sound very "pretty" to be beautiful or artisitc which is not the case. John Cage is a musical genius according to some people yet his work is very VERY unconventional. So our talent and our tools are out there we just need to be more aware of them. :) Happy Holidays.

Thank you, Muse gods, for showing me the way to a genuine copy of Origin of Symmetry! It's an import from Australia on the Mushroom label---is that the label all Aussie copies were sold under? Not Maverick? I don't really care; it's a miracle (oh, no, don't tell blissfully_enlightened, he or she will be lobbying for Muse sainthood again). It's especially miraculous, as I have been looking at every store that sells CD's in this area, and where did I find it??? Borders! (If they don't have Borders where you are, it's a big corporate chain book/music store) Happy happy Christmas for me!

I'd just like to add to this thread to show my appreciation for everything Muse have ever done.

Thank you for all of the amazing songs, all of the incredible shows, for bringing the kind of 'grandiose' to modern music that I've always dreamed about whilst being able to keep that soft spot for classical music at the same time, for giving me something to truly idolise. Music is such an important part of my life, and certain Muse songs in particular have been extremely promenant in helping me through numerous rough patches.

Thank you, Matt, Chris and Dom, from the bottom of my heart, for being the wonderful, inspiring people that you are. :$

LOL! That was you with the phone?! Awesome! I thought it was so funny when Matt was like, "Wales?!" lol!

Was that Wednesday Dec. 8 or Thursday Dec. 9??? I remember several people giving their phones to the band out behind the theater after the show so they could talk to their friends.

When I was at EndFest in Seattle in September, my son Brian had already left for college in SoCal so I took his friend Jordan. As we were talking to the band at the Meet and Greet, Brian (Mr. ESP) called Jordan, who of course handed his phone to Matthew, who had a nice chat with my son. So in LA, Brian handed HIS phone to Matthew so he could chat with Jordan, back home in Seattle. Matt was a riot, kept asking who the "geezer" on the phone was, then realized that the photo he was signing for Brian was of the band with me and Jordan in Seattle. So Matt says something like "Hey, you're the geezer in the picture I'm signing right now." It sounds dumb to retell, but it was pretty funny. And it shows how generous the band are with their time; very indulgent of their crazy fans!
And for this I thank you, Muse! (In keeping with the theme of this thread)

This wasn't at the store 2 days before, because every time any of us go to any store that sells CD's we check the Muse section (are we the only ones that do this? at Best Buy they had Musiq covering up Muse, so of course I put their display right). [QUOTE=gocanux]Went to Borders again yest. to return a duplicate gift, and what did I find? Not another copy of OOS, like last time----now I found an Aussie copy of a CD/DVD combo, with Absolution and Fury on the CD and a cool DVD about the SFO vid and some other stuff. QUOTE]

Unfortunately the DVD is not in US format, but it does play on the computer. Guess i'll have to hook up the laptop to the big-screen TV!

Actually, GBS, it does! And the "Big Day Off" part of the DVD is just freakin hilarious, with Muse on the beach in Australia (Matt menacing seagulls), Dom showing his "prowess" at golf, and all 3 in a hysterical laughter fit at a funhouse or some such. Matthew's laugh is nothing short of infectious!

Canuck (with a name like that you should be Markus Naslund!), where was your SFA DVD produced? Mine was an Aussie issue and definitely won't play on our DVD player. Any way to reformat it so it's compatible?

I am definitely going to check Borders for some Muse stuff...Barnes & Nobles has absolutely nothing. I agree about Matt's laugh...it is very contagious!

You should invest in a multi-region dvd player then you won't have problems with import dvd's.

I have never seen one for sale---do I have to go to a special video-recording equipment type store? Anyway, it's not that hard ot hook up the old laptop to the TV.
