Chorlton rocks, I used to love him as a kid. I may keep him, even when J puts the standard avatars back.

I tend to recognise people by avatars, so I get a bit confused, he he.

Well the user names seem to be a lot bigger on this board, so people are easier to spot even without avatars.

I'd just been waiting for an excuse to change mine, and this was an ideal opportunity. Still need to do a greyhound one though...

Java is a really good skill to have though. It's something I could do with some experience in.

Programming full time can get really dull. It's especially frustrating during bug fixing stages. Then you have to deal with users whinging all the time because things don't work quite as the want.

Mind you, I'm preaching to the choir with that last point, considering the grief you get with this place.

Depending on what I'm working on that can be quite good. Where I used to work I had lots of communications equipment to control, and that would often be quite interesting. I got to learn about radios comms, direction finding, GPS and things like that (though I've forgotten a lot of it now).

Where I am now it's all databases, loan calculations and quotes. Dull as ditchwater.

Picking up VB.Net or C#.Net won't do you any harm. The Standard editions are about £80 each I think, if you can't get access to them any other way.

Java is still a hot skill.

I suppose it depends if you want to do web based development or non-web stuff. And if you lean more towards MS or Open Source stuff.

Hm. Well I only really use MS programming tools now, so I can only really give you my opinion on those.

I think all of the .NET languages are similar with respect to power and ease of use. Both use object oriented principles though, so it would help if you are comfortable with those. VB.Net may be slightly easier though, but I say that with my 6 year's experience in previous versions of VB.

VB6 will probably be easier to pick up and run with than the .NET languages, so I'd give that a go if you can get hold of it. MS don't sell it anymore. People may diss it, but I have made many commercially viable applications with it.

Someone else would be better to advise you on non-MS tools I'm afraid.

Yes, I'm concerned about the weather myself. Oh well, bin liners are your friend in these situations. I actually climbed into one at Reading Festival one year, whilst Marion were on I think. I hope Muse make it, or that we get Rammstein as a replacement. :D

James and I will be staying at my friend's place in Layton, East London on Friday night, cunningly situated right next to the A12. We'll therefore have far less to travel on Satuday morning (only 38 miles to Chelmsford), so should make it easily for noon kickoff.

We'll therefore have far less to travel on Satuday morning (only 38 miles to Chelmsford), so should make it easily for noon kickoff. Our latest schedule is that we have to drop my dog off at my parents' house near Basildon so we'll have quite a detour. Went to my parents' this Saturday for lunch and the traffic was awful on the M25, so I'm expecting it to be quite a long journey again :'( Five of us in the car and the dog most of the way there's going to be GREAT fun :)

We're aiming to get there for noon but might not make it. Too many variables ;)

We're aiming to get there for noon but might not make it. Too many variables ;)

I did a test run to my friend's house yesterday, and it took over an hour and a half to get to her place, mainly because I had to come literally half way around the M25 and then negotiate a congested Blackwall Tunnel. This is pretty much why we decided to come up the night before, so we wouldn't be in the car for hours on the morning of the festival. I think trying to cut through London instead of using the M25 would probably take even longer.

As for meeting up, we have each other's mobiles so we should be fine. I just hope it doesn't pour down.

Did you and Helen meet up after?

Hi. Yes, I really enjoyed V thanks. It was excellent, though I enjoyed the bands better on Sunday.

I did get to meet Helen, though we had a job arranging a time and place to meet as the mobile networks were under such a strain. I couldn't get any calls to mobile to connect, and it took 15 minutes for text messages to be delivered sometimes!

I forget I have a thread, I just spam up everyone elses. :D

I was at Reading on the Saturday, and really enjoyed Franz Ferdinand, Morrissey and the White Stripes. I narrowly avoided being thrown up on by a drunk, but a man near me was not so fortunate. His legs were covered in vomit, it was foul.

A friend who was at the festival on Sunday texted me about 50 Cent getting bottled off, and he was overjoyed about it. I heard that people were throwing mud at The Rasmus!

I spent Sunday night at a club, where they played 4 Rammstein songs.
