These guys are great, i have been into them for a few years now, and they blew me away wen i went to see em last year at the Wolves footy stadium, i have just got their new 5 disc box set of all rare and unreleased stuff and it seems fab, as good as most of their recent stuff.....so are there any bj fans around here?

even if you aint really into there style of music, i think you still have to kinda look up to them, and accept that there pretty good at what they do, with all what they have achieved and stuff

That's stupid. Either you like them or you don't. I grew up on Bon Jovi and yes, I had a couple of cds... :$ But I'm sorry, I can't take their music serious anymore. It's all American commercial crap. But again, that's what I think. ;)

I saw them at Hyde Park last year and they were performing for nearly 3 hours.
Very doubtfull if there are that many bands that could go on as long as that.

I had all of the Bon Jovi albums till 5 years ago.

Verdict: they suck.

Not that you actually have to have all of their albums to say that, cause their songs are very well-known and there's nothing different in the ones that aren't.

They've made 1 bearable album, and that is Keep the Faith.

As for the rest....they just love to throw the obviousness their fans swallow down. I wouldn't blame them for making easy money, but do something different ffs.

people I work with love bon jovi and I have had to listen to several albums all the way through, several times. my verdict

Songwriting- predictable, simplistic, pedestrian. but some of it is obviously well crafted from a commercial aspect as they employ proffesional pop songwriters.

Lyrics- really really bad. anyone who rhymes lie with cry with die needs to buy a thesaurus or something. oh yeah and phrases 'love is a social disease' are not nearly as clever as jon thinks they are- definately not clever enough to warrant endless repetition...

Guitar- really cliched and not that amazing technically either. how many times do you want to hear someone play a naff riff with a couple of cheeky harmonics thrown in for good measure.

but hey each to his own. If you like this may I reccomend you buy some of Phil Collins solo work, or failing that just listen to Rugby FM for the rest of your life in total ecstasy...

Actually, it appears Jon Bon Jovi is not. He's been married for aaaaaaages, and people say he's a nice guy. I even like the solo album he did. But I do agree Bon Jovi sucks.

Bon Jovi is a twat.

Bon Jovi are a group, so it would be 'Bon Jovi are twats'.

on a personal level with Jon you would have to say Jon Bon Jovi is a twat, or even use his real name of John Bongiovi...

so there! :p

Ah, the debatable delights of the seminal BJ... Back in the mists of time (20 years ago *ahem*) when a wee girlie of 14, I nigh on worshipped the mighty Jovi; seeing them for the first time at Hammersmith Odeon (only my 2nd gig) was, for a (very) short time, the highlight of my little life, and most afternoons and every weekend were spent holed up in my bedroom listening to their early albums and imagining I was Mrs BJ or at the very least a random groupie. Having acquired some musical sophistication during the next couple of years, I didn't again feel the need to listen to a BJ record until only a few weeks ago, when in an evening of unprecedented drunkenness, my friend (a fellow ex-fan) and I sang, danced and rocked our way through the first three albums in her kitchen. I had no idea that I still remembered every single lyric on the first 2 albums and most of the 3rd - it was like being possessed (I imagine...), I didn't actually know what was going to come out of my mouth until it did, torrents of hitherto buried musical memories came gushing out; it was so rock n' roll my jeans even spontaneously split at the knee (absolutely true). It was just the best fun. The morning after was like waking up after a hedonistic night on the tiles including shagging an old flame who seemed so nostalgically charming when the booze goggles were on but in the cold light of day you know is actually tremendously dated, desperately cliched and really rather sad. I am happy to report that having indulged in one last fling, I now look forward to a lifetime of never having to listen to another Bon Jovi record again.
Happy days...

They made some good solid commercial rock in their time. Which was about 20years ago. After that they started making music for 12 ear old girls and women over 40.

Haven't listened to that crossroads CD I bought as a kid in a long-ass time... Probably couldn't stand it if I did.

Still, no hard feelings, they're good at what they do, it's just absolutely not for me.

I'm not a big Bon Jovi fan. I own a grand total of "none" of their albums. But every time I hear a half-decent Richie Sambora guitar solo it takes me back to the early 90's... back to when I was a kid, when I was discovering new music, and I was developing my own musical "identity" and tastes. That said, however, all Bon Jovi's latest stuff was a bit crap.

I love Bon Jovi

I'm going to see them at Giants Stadium on July 18th.
It sort of upsets me that at every single show Bon Jovi plays like 7 or 8 songs from their new albums, and the past 3 have been quite mediocre.

Yet, I'm very looking forward for this show. I'm sure than despite those crappy songs from 'Have A Nice Day' I will have fun.

They've certainly been around for a very long time now. I remember going to their concert in Moscow [!!!], with the Scorpions and a bunch of other western rockers, when I was still at scholl... more than 22 years ago! I was quite into them at that time. And they did not seem at all overrated in comparison with what was going on in the music business at that time. But the music landscape has changed so dramatically - things haven't been standing still for those decades, music is more "sophisticated" now (I hate that word, but my mind is blank for a better one). The last album I've enjoyed listening to was Destination Everywhere, the solo one (I might've mixed up the title). Dunno what they've been up to since then. To all you BonJovi haters - he doesn't just sing! he also acts! Only last week I saw him in the role of a Vanhelsing type of character on TV - that kept me up longer than usual :chuckle He also did a silly sentimental short with Demme Moore, U571 and Leading Man... :erm:
