Powderfinger are boring. However, Grinspoon I am seeing on Friday. Along with Something with Numbers. Booyeah!

True. Hole's tend to be a defining feature. It's more just a... blank space.

Oh yeah, a young Brisbanite band opened for Grinners too. Violent Soho.
They weren't half bad, actually. Nice to see grunge coming back. They did wear their influences on their sleeve, though. Nirvana, Pixies and Sonic Youth a deffo.
Also, the singer looked like Craig Nichols ala Teh Vines.

Big yes for The Butterfly Effect! <3

Wolfmother...:erm:.. I don't know them too well:unsure:
I really like their name though. I thought they play some heavy/ gothic music... and I was really disappointed after I've heard their songs.
However, before I'll judge them, I really need to hear all of their stuff. I've heard only three or four songs, so it's not enough for me to tell if I like them or not.

The Cat Empire, Blue King Brown, John Butler Trio, Something For Kate, Silverchair, CC Stoneking, Angus & Julia Stone, The Vines, Crowded House, The Waifs, Powederfinger, Operator Please, Birds of Tokyo, Karnivool, Airborne (my friend saw them live and said they were awesome!), The Herd, Hilltop Hoods, Anthony Calea....just kidding about the last one. Hes got nothing on Shannon Noll!

Ok, if you're into post-rock like Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium, you'll definitely love Mushroom Giant. They're a Melbourne-based band, and I was just at their Myspace page yesterday because they're currently the feature artist of OzProg. First song I heard, Sirenthia, was amazing! And the rest of the songs they have on there just kept bringing it to the next level. So yes, go to http://www.myspace.com/mushroomgiant

God they were rubbish weren't they? They only good songs they played were Freak and Israel's Son. And they were the only two songs the crowd got in to. I'm glad that's the only time I've had to suffer through them and at least the wait was for Rage.

Interesting... Silverchair were excellent at Across the Great Divide last year. Excellent tone, awesome voice, loved the guitar effects...They definitely don't have the same impact on album though. Just my opinion. But Powderfinger and Silverchair aren't that similar; Silverchair's music is always evolving whereas Powderfinger stays stagnant (get some new chord progressions people).

Anyway, in love with Cog, Karnivool and The Butterfly Effect at the moment.

pinkfloyddsotm

yeah COG's new album is fuckin insane, i bought it yesterday
town of lincoln is my new fav, some long songs varying from 5 - 10 mins, more prog rock/industrial rock sound, but he has the perfect voice for the type of music they make..
less riff orientated and more based aorund crazy chord progressions..i went to two sanity stores and they'd sold out cogs new album so their getting bigger lol

and yeah powderfinger need to broaden their horizons, silverchair has, powderfingers new song "who really cares" its epic as, the guitarist plays the double neck gibson like page yet doesnt do any sick solo's in the song, his solo consists of moving around the Aminor pentatonic scale thats it..listen to the song and youll understand that it does need a guitar solo

haha, i am a mad silverchair fan and prefer their newer stuff, but geez they effed up with the setlist for BDO.

i thought they sounded pretty good at sydney BDO (well from the barrier anyway, my mate was up in the stands and said the sound was shite and she loves them more than i do), but if you dont like their newer stuff you would have been bored to tears

There's a band in Sydney Australia who have just started out about a year ago called Papa VS Pretty who I think sound a bit like a mix of radiohead and Muse, probs mostly like Showbiz era meets electronics experimentation... the songwriting is definately completely original and interesting which is very much similar to Muse, and the singer guy has a voice that reminds me of Matt with a few falsetto parts in songs etc. They also remind me of Queen, both in vocal harmonies, and in guitar harmonies (check out the track "Educated", very Brian May-ish)!

they're not very well known at the moment, mainly just in the sydney underground scene but given a few years i think they'll be big, especially considering they're average age is 17 i think.

I high recommend you all to check them out on myspace; I found them on there earlier this year and loved them, and I think many of you here who like Muse will also like them!

hahaha yes i see why you could think that didn't make sense, but what I meant was they have original songwriting, much like Muse also have originality in their songwriting, not that the songwriting was necessarily the same as Muse, cos then of course, as you pointed out, that wouldn't make sense if it was original but the same!

2009? WTF.

Anyway, went to the Dead Letter Circus gig last night. Four bands for ~$30, good times.

First was a band called Self is a Seed - nice and rocky but the vocals were a bit overpowered by the guitars. http://www.last.fm/music/Self+%7C+Is+A+Seed

Next was a band called [Me]. Never heard of them before but they were pretty fun. Heavy at times, with a lot of non-vocal parts to their songs. Sorta reminded me of Silversun Pickups, only slightly though.http://www.last.fm/music/%255BMe%255D?ac=%5Bme%5D

Floating Me were as to be expected, with the Cog drummer and Jon Stockman in the lineup. The vocalist was not into it at all, he was good but just didnt seem to be interested in the whole thing. But they were awesome all the same. Very drum heavy and you could really hear the influence of Jon from Karnivool in there. Might go see them again if they have a headline show. http://www.last.fm/music/Floating+Me

My favourite two aussie bands: The Temper Trap and Amy Meredith.

I saw The Temper Trap live in Melbourne last year, and they were brilliant (my first concert too!). I'm seeing Amy Meredith in May at the Hi Fi Bar :D

West End Riot (local version of The Living End)

Seriously?!

Do they do covers or what?

No, they write originals :)

Given that the majority of the band members haven't hit 18 yet, some of the lyrics are a little juvenile. But they have talent by the truckload! As said on FL 'Guitarist Chris Travaglini played solos that would rival any guitar hero'. They are only going to get better as they grow :)
These recordings are muddy, it's just done on their home computer, so that's understandable. They are a band that need to be experienced live. So much energy!

I love the building and smart car one :)

Anyway, back on topic, you guys have excellent music there, and I wish I could find more Powderfinger up here. I've only begun digging into their collection. Temper Trap are good, and I like the dance to Art vs. Science.

Super obsessed with The Jezabels at the moment. Dark Storm EP is awesome, and the album, Prisoner, is not far behind. I can't stop listening to them after their Sydney gig last weekend. Such lovely tunes

I also found out today that the vocalist from Boy & Bear was my next door neighbour as a kid until I was about 12. Funny stuff.

Hurrah for Sydney bands!

Saw Tracer on Monday night supporting Royal Republic, and I was very impressed.
Think 70s rock crossed with QoTSA. :awesome:

Next was a band called [Me]. Never heard of them before but they were pretty fun. Heavy at times, with a lot of non-vocal parts to their songs. Sorta reminded me of Silversun Pickups, only slightly though.http://www.last.fm/music/%255BMe%255D?ac=%5Bme%5D
[Me] are amazing! I love them so much. Apart from their name. I hate the name

Yep I am too, despite only knowing a few. Hurt Me I love especially. I'll have to get their album.

Edit:
At other times [Me] are like the soundtrack to a vampire movie set in revolutionary France – with laser beams.
Haha whenever I hear Naked I've thought of around that era (well, more Napoleonic), so I'm not weird. :p

I saw the Jezabels a few weeks ago, really good, too many screamy 12 year olds, was quite annoying. So many asked if we could swap spots (i was on the barrier) for just a few songs.

:O Boy & bear are so great, the singer is the nicest guy!

Becoming obsessed with Empire of the Sun again after seeing them live. Their show was just unbelievably confusing.
