Has anyone heard the Doom 3 theme, I think it's by Chris Vrenna/a band called Tweaker.
Anyhoo, it's brutally awesome, I'll upload it if anyone wants it .
I played it on Frets on Fire (Guitar Hero basicly). It is truly brutal. :D

Trent Reznor composed the music for the first Quake game. Is that what you are thinking of?
Yeah. Truly amazing, really.

Yes. It's very good. id Software got Chris Vrenna in when Trent had to pull out of the project. Read an interview with Trent a few years ago. He was asked what he thought of the game and he said "Doom 3 is a great game. I'm loving what I have played so far and was dissapointed when I had to leave the project." Then he was asked, what do you think of the music? He replied "It definatly suits the game. I assume the theme is something by Tool..."

Awesome! I heard a rumour about a Year Zero movie too...
Would be nice if he could hook up with his old friends at id Software and discuss a game too. Seeing how Trent has loads of story ideas and id Software make some amazing game engines.
What would the tv programme be like/about?
Trent is an absolute musical god. Pretty much on par with Matt Bellamy imo. Bellamy just edges it tho.
I am well happy. NIN, twice in a year. Both shows being brilliant, the second brilliant times 478745. I am lucky. Go to YouTube and search for NIN Stockholm Trent Chitchats or something. He made a joke about playing every tuesday further down the street because he found it funny that they hadn't played in Sweden for so long and now they come and play twice in 4 months.
I never though the man who sung "There is no you there is only me" would be so.. kind.
Kidding. He was brilliant.
and o top of a brilliant concert year, I am seeing Muse in October! WEI!

Nope. Trent's power is to transport the listener into his own personal world. Pretty much better then anyone on the planet, but musically no-one touches Matt.

Actually Trent can play piano like Matt. Can Matt write songs like Trent? No I dont think he can. Until Muse release an album as amazing as the Fragile, then Matt will be up there with Trent. As of yet Muse have not released an album as good as The Fragile, in my opinion anyway.
And as for no-one touching Matt musically I'm afraid I dont agree with that either. There are loads of better musicians out there. Including Trent Reznor. Trent may not be as good on guitar as Matt but he is a better all round musician I think.
Your opinion is your opinion though. Things would be boring if everyone thought the same thing and agreed all the time. At the end of the day it's great that there are loads of bands/artists/musicians out there making awesome music.

The new album is very good. But that's only really my opinion, I think people who hated The Fragile may need a few listens for Year Zero.

Y'see, I loved Year Zero from the first time I heard it.
But The Fragile I've had for over two years now, listened to about 50 times, and I just can't get into any of it.
:(.
Actually Trent can play piano like Matt.
Er no he can't. Show me one NIN song with Trent playing the piano like Matt does in Muse - Piano Thing. Trent can play the piano alright, but his own piano compositions are pretty simplistic, definitely not with the complexity of Matt's. If you need proof of that then listen to Muse - Piano Thing right the way through. Dunno if you have already heard it or not but here you go.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x82JdegSbYA&mode=related&search=
And it is my utmost believe that there isn't a musician who can multi-task to such a high quality like Matt Bellamy. Matt plays a guitar up there with the Claptons and Van Halens. He sings in flawless, pitch perfect falsetto and reaches ranges 99% of men could never go. His piano playing is Sergei Rachmaninoff-esque.
Sure, there may be other musicians out there who can write a better song, but as talented musically. I don't think so. For me Matt Bellamy is a modern day Mozart with Synths. In an interview Matt Bellamy said he'd like to concentrate on some classical compositions. I look forward to the day I can hear it.
Clunge
14-08-2007, 06:37 PM
You could however, say that Piano Thing is comparable with artists such as Joe Satriani or John Petrucci - it's technically flawless, but lacks any real sense of emotion or feeling.
Trent and Bellamy are both exceptional musicians making very different music. Trent may well play equally as challenging pieces as Matt but never feels it's necessary to bring them into NIN's music. March Of The Pigs has a very interesting piano piece because it is in such stark contrast to the rest of the song, using the piano in a way Bellamy never does.
It's a never-ending argument, suffice to say I love both .

Technical abilities mean nothing to me. I think Trent has such an original style that his music is beyond what Muse have ever done in terms of originality. I won't compare the bands more than that, since I haven't heard NIN's all albums yet.
Matthew Bellamy is not better than Trent Reznor.
For starters they all develop completely different styles of music to one another, and they are both exceptional musicians in their own right. Both with unbelievable singing talent, and instrumental ability - I have seen both these bands play live enough times and they always always blow me away, each for their own reasons.
If I were to choose then I would go with Trent sincerely for the fact that if you listen to songs like hurt, the day the whole world went away, And all that could have been, the great below, the frail, a warm place etc etc you'll see that Trent has a power to move you in a way that Muse songs don't. Trent has worked on soundtracks and remixes and have been doing this a bloody long time as well.
PS. I think the Fragile is ace but I still would prefer TDS above it (despite the fragile containing my favourite track)
etc etc etc

Matthew is far behind in technics when compared to Satriani or lets say Vai. Most of his piano work is quite simplistic as well, but he can play well, but he is nowhere near the classical composers in technics again. He's a jack of all trades, and very good one, but he is a master of none.
I still believe his best skill lies in compositions. Technical skill is irrelevant when the songs themselves are composed so that they are blissful to the ear.

:yesey:.
Most of his piano work is quite simplistic as well.
Yeah the piano lines in many of Muse's songs are simple because that is the nature of Muse records, but if Matt wanted to compose an album of complex classical compostions he could, Piano Thing is a very complex piece for a pianist and Matt composed that. But anyway I'm talking about how good he is on the piano. If Trent and Bellamy were to sit down and have a duel on the piano. Matt would win with ease. As for Satriani, great guitar player. Can he play the piano like Matt tho, can he reach the vocal notes Matt can. Nope.
I'm not talking about the songs here I'm talking about the actual ability which Matt certainly isn't a 'jack of all trades, master of none' but a master of three.
Actually Trent can play piano like Matt. Can Matt write songs like Trent? No I dont think he can. Until Muse release an album as amazing as the Fragile, then Matt will be up there with Trent. As of yet Muse have not released an album as good as The Fragile, in my opinion anyway.

I agree with you to an extent. But Matt is one of the more talented musicians today. Trent is a lot more powerful but Matt is not far from. And I agree that the day Muse make an album such as the Fragile, they are worthy the worship we give Trent. haha

I have heard pretty much everything by NIN. There is not one piano piece by Trent that can match the musical complexity of Piano Thing. Are you getting me wrong? I'm not on about how good the song is to listen to which there are plenty of NIN songs that Muse can't possibly touch but the difficulty and technique to actually compose and play that piece. Bellamy is a modern day Bach.

I'm you and you're you just doesn't allways cut it.
No your wrong because the term musician is such a broad term. Do we mean their technical ability on an instrument, the ability to sight read, having absolute pitch perception, the ability to compose music etc
Imo, Matt is a far better musician with his technical ability on guitar and piano, nothing else, I would say he is more creative, but only in the field of what he does with his sound, not the bands. His voice has a better and more controlled range but it's not as emotional.
The song composistion, how it all fits together, the creativity and development of the band, that's where trent is in a class of his own. NIN is Trent Reznor, allways will be. Live is just a different animal and where Trent really becomes a Front Man.

Nice equipment destruction from Aaron too. That security guard looked pretty scared when he realised an amp/monitor was coming his way.
I was pleased that the BBC put quite a bit of the performance on the red button last night.
I think the set list was:
Hyperpower!
The Beginning of the End
Survivalism
March of the Pigs
Closer
Burn
Gave Up
Me, I'm Not
The Great Destroyer
Eraser
Only
Wish
Dead Souls
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

Well when I saw him he had a nasty look on his face. But I thought fuck it and decided to go over and say hello anyway and he was a really nice bloke. I had my NIN t shirt on and said I thought they were fucking awesome and shook his hand. He was the opposite of a knobhead when I met him.
Ah that's good to hear, he does tend to have a moody look on his face most the time though ha

the finish to that set the last 3 songs were IMMENSE i totally loved it, but was expecting a bigger audience. there staging was INCREDIBLe, when they had the tv fuzz screen and then a light on trent behind it and he looked like he was popping his head out of the tv screen when it was on fuzzy was just sooo wow. i loved it soooooo much.

For once Trent actually spoke to us too.
He stopped to have a little chat, apologising for last time and telling us all the shut the fuck up whilst he basically said that they were annoyed they couldn't have the screens in the shitty little venue, that the sound was fucked on their end so he couldn't hear shit but that they were still gonna kick some ass and thanked us for being so patient and waiting.

It was lucky that steward realised it was coming.
If he's not chucking himself into the crowd he's chucking anything else close to hand. The amount of water bottles he threw/kicked into the crowd at Reading was immense. I'm glad I keep back at NIN gigs otherwise I'd invest in a tin helmet.

The Israel show yesterday was awesome, easily the best live show I've ever seen here.
It seemed Trent loved it too, he kept going on about how they're sorry it took them so long to come here and how they'll include Israel in every tour from now on.
Setlist was great. I can find it and post it here if anyone wants it.
I was front row too and got to enjoy about 4,000 sweaty Israelis pushing me against the railings. O joy!
I have to say I was fortunate enough to meet Trent and Alessandro. Filmed them both talking on a vid cam (willingly, obviously), they were nicer than expected.
Did Unkle support them in the UK too? They were also awesome.

They were. Well, I only met Alessandro and Trent and they were both in a great mood (I have to say Alessandro is probably the sweetest thing and as hopeful as that may sound I hope he doesn't leave/get dumped soon..)
Trent told us a bit of a story about the cover of Year Zero (with that crew guy I fancied lol), we had a little group shot with him and talked about Israel. They were just really impressed with the crowd here and it seems rather likely they really will come back here every time they do a tour as he said on stage.
It's really easy to bring a band BACK to Israel, it's simply hard to make it happen first time around, I don't think the bands realise how incredible the crowds here are. Trent certainly seemed to agree. I'll put the video I shot of him and some of the videos from the gig (I have the whole of Closer and Hurt and some others) as soon as I get a connection back on my own computer lol
Now here's hope Muse will be the next band to make fans here go wild... you should see how mental the press here has gone for NIN now

Hah, I heard about Trent's anecdote. Very funny.
It's the case with most countries like Israel. It's hard to get bands to come the first time round but once they're there, they are hooked. I think when they first played in Finland in 2005, they've started to really dig the country - they've been there twice more this year.

Ah, I wish we'll get in that situation!! lol It's like that with Radiohead here, they got here 4 times and then they also have a beach house here for holidays!
Most bands who came here once end up coming here again atleast once more.. I just seriously want Muse to come here that one, first time now  :(
Well, NIN made up for it easily - for now.
Haha I just found this on flickr
http://www.flickr.com/photos/islandsoflight/1341457848/
It's a photo of people queuing up at 6.33am!! for the gig in wolves...crazy fuckers...
Mental. I got to the Israeli gig at 3pm and there were only 10 people there (we were able to go in easily inside the gig area and NIN were on stage soundchecking , Israeli productions... not very professional some of the time)

ha sounds ace, security is tight here so it's not so easy to sneak in.
Haha I just commented on the person's photo and they replied back saying that some people had been there since 2am! 0_o

That was interesting. And I agree it will be weird seeing a new line up, but this brings a question what direction are the shows going to take? So far they have been as the article said a nice all round view of things, but will a new line up mean a new push towards with teeth/year zero sounds?

He said something about wanting it stripped down, so I predict it will be Trent on a Hammond organ with Aaron on a banjo. I think Closer will work beautifully.

Agreed. Aaron is brilliant. I want to carry his babies.
Besides if they went over to an electronica style-gig, it'd be fucking dull. I love the intense and wild NIN I've seen twice now.

Electronica gigs would just involve standing and watching which is all fair and well but not just not nin. I've seen them play an insane amount of times now and loved every minute of it, in fact any other band I've seen just doesn't compare to them. I would be quite disappointed if that all changed

But.. I like Alessandro :(
Nine Inch Nail's first three albums (obviously discounting Broken) took eleven years to make. After reading this post on the ETS forum regarding this afternoon's gig in Sydney, it looks like the next three will have been recorded within the space of a measly three years:
Was a fucking awesome show.
The keyboard solo at the end of Something I Can Never Have and the crazy electronic ending to The Great Destroyer were highlights.
Oh also that they played Down In It.
Also in case anyone missed the show, Trent said they'll be back ~mid next year, after recording the new album.
SERIOUSLY. What happened to this dude's writing block?!?

Hehe. Its quite common for Trent to change lineups every so often. Not sure what direction Trent is going in. Lots of romours going around that he is stripping it down and having a more electronic sound. And I think that may mean songs that are more guitar driven may not be played anymore.
The follow up to Year Zero is supposed to be coming out early next year I think...

There was an interview in Kerrang not long back and he said he is starting a side project that will sound like early Oasis. I assume that when he planned to start it he did'nt know that Trent was going to change things as he said side project.
I'm not bothered about it anyway. As much as I like the lineup I prefer change as it keeps things fresh and exciting. NIN has always been Trent and I imagine that will never change. Song writing talent like Jeordie and Aaron have should not go to waste so I would rather see them writing material.

Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the
following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally
free agent, free of any recording contract with any label.
I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the
business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very
different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a
direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.
Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008.
Exciting times, indeed.

Seriously though, putting Nothing back together would be the way forward I think. Even with digital downloads, I think you need an identity that people recognise and trust. Seeing how Trent hates alot of the music around today, and I agree with him most of it is shit imo, Nothing would be a good way for him to help artists making music for art, not money, to get their name out there.

Come see the show and buy a T-shirt if you like it. I would put out a nicely packaged merchandise piece, if you want to own a physical thing. And it would come out the day that it's done in the studio, not this "Let's wait three months" bullshit"
