Anyone else slightly (or more than slightly) disappointed in this album?
I was never a HUGE NIN fan to begin with, but this album isn't nearly as good as the previous stuff. Maybe it just needs more time...

I love the new album personally. I dont think its that samey at all to be honest.
I like the way it incorporates some ideas he used on all his previous work and "updates" it. If you know what i mean...
Fav tracks are 'Every day is exactly the same' and 'only' at the mo... :D

Mikey and I went for a cruise and we listened to it, and we have a theory:
All the other albums had an ongoing theme, with the notes Trent used, the riff was always constant throughout the album... think of the scale on the piano at the end of Closer being a typical one for the rest of Downward Spiral.
This time he's got the theme going on, duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-uh (think of Hand That Feeds' chorus) but a lot of the sharp/flat notes are no longer in the scale... which led us to the conclusion that he's left them out in order to be more appealing to the masses.
Sort of thing.

i think this album is more mainstream (not in a bad way) than anything they have done.
i like it alot...aint no fragile but what can you do.
i perfer this new one to the fragile from my listens (which admittedly aren't too many its one of those albums i keep meaning to put on but forget) i found fragile a bit bloated with wannabe a warm place numbers, but first two and the ep beat the new one.

I've just got back from an awesome performance at Brixton. There was a great selection of songs from throughout the back catalogue, including Sin, Closer, March of the Pigs, The Hand That Feeds, The Wretched, Starfuckers Inc., Wish, Suck, Dead Souls, You Know What You Are? and loads more. There was an encore, and they ended with Hurt and Head Like A Hole.
Trent climbed into the crowd at one point and some people got to sing with him. Jeordie threw his bass into the crowd at the end too. They all launched loads of bottles of water into the crowd, and microphone stands went flying (at one point a camera man was almost taken out!). Bloody excellent to watch.
That drummer seems very good.

When they did the two london gigs earlier they played diff stuff on either night I believe.
If I get to see We're in this together played then I will probably die of joy. Though I was talking with my mates about this, and they would need two drummers to play it.

Went tonight and they were fantastic as always, I think the setlist was slightly different to Monday, they started with The Frail then The Wretched and also played The Big Comedown and I think The Day The World Went Away in the set. Trent looks as buff as ever, but slightly smaller than when the played the Astoria, Aaron North is mad and Jeordie and Jerome were fantastic, can't wait till next week !.

Yep, they definately did The Day The World Went Away. Did they play Sin last night, I can't remember? There were a couple of songs that I didn't recognise, one that was really funky and sounded a bit like Rage Against The Machine at the beginning (they also played that on Monday).
Overall they seemed a lot more animated on Monday, but yesterday's perfomance was still bloody brilliant. They could teach a lot of bands a thing or too about putting on a show.
It sounded like some girl shouted out "I love you Trent!" during Hurt.

Last night was goooood mmmmhmmmmm, I'll try and remember the setlist when I calm down (and come back from meeting Leo)
Hey! she had a toughie decision, I managed to sell the ticket afterall anyway :)
Well...just got back from an extremely delish gig :D
Setlist, I cant remember the order or all the songs but here is what I remember:
With Teeth, The hand that feeds, getting smaller, the collector, only (i think?), love is not enough, you know what you are (i also think), the line begins to blur
Closer (with trent hip movements...*smirk*) reptile, march of pigs, hurt
The frail, the wretched (<---opening tunes), the day the whole world went away, even deeper, starfuckers
Head like a hole, terrible lie, something i can never have,
Wish, gave up, suck
Hmm I just recalled those songs by their album :stunned: I think that was all...
We didnt get a proper encore due to the half 10 curfew.
Someone got on stage heh but was swiftly removed
Was disappointed not to get the big come down again or have by some lucky slim chance we're in this together played.
No near death experience as was stood happily on balcony, but still ended up sweaty and overheating for some bizzare reason.
Was left wanting more :(
edit: pictures pending, if any turn out decent, would of had loads if my stupid batteries hadnt died

I was looking through stuff I have packed away, and came across my diary from 1994. In it I had written about the NIN gig on the 26th May that I went to, on the Self Destruct (Downward Spiral) Tour. Main things I noted were:
1) Trent wore leather shorts and some sort of stockings.
2) He fell backwards over a stage-hand who was bending over picking debris off the stage, but managed to recover quickly.
3) They had a keyboard on springs that Trent kept bashing, and that was distroyed at the end of the night (this was a common theme for the tour - a friend of mine actually has one of the keys from the keyboard that was totalled on the previous night).
4) I was overjoyed that they did their cover of Queen's Get Down Make Love and played Happiness In Slavery.
5) I was appalled that they didn't play Hurt.
6) The band kept chucking bottles of water at the crowd.
7) Trent climbed into the crowd, and gave some heckler the finger and abuse.
8) The guitarist (Robin Finck or Danny Lohner) was an absolute mentallist (as the guitarist is now).
I'm going to see them again on Thursday. :$

He buggered up Terrible Lie, hehe...and was wearing an open vest thing (you could see muaha) heh heh
Same with the water thing...but I think it was Twiggy doing the crowd jumping (couldn't see the other side well)...amd the amps. He was insane :D

No Hurt, which seemed like sacrelige at the time. We got Hurt at both shows this week.
Friends decided they wanted to go again, and See Tickets still had some tickets (both seated and standing), so I thought I might as well go with them. :D
I was exceptionally disapointed that they didnt trash the stage big style.
And a shame about no covers either, covers would of be great to see.
My mates are goin to a manc show on monday, and I want to go and get some moreeee :(
Have also discovered I've lost the money I got back on the ticket, probably dropped in a petrol station on way home. Grrr. Twas meant to be my mates money as well :/ And yes I'm sure I lost it and not spent it cause I didn't spend a 20 quid note last night.

Wow, the gig last nite was ace, but the crowd in my bit disappointed me. Not that that's why I went of course, but started dancing and jumpin right from the beginnin (as I had intended) and everyone around was just corpsey! There were 3 people who seemed to like them enough to move about and that was only to the old school classics. Was a bit annoyed as felt I was in the way! I think they were also just curious about the band and not there to get down! Grrr
We got there at 8.30 and got a few rows from the front. Probably cos of the corpses!!!
Are there still chickens for tonite avail? Anyone got any cheap? Would need to know by 4pm today...

I was down nearing to the front tonight for the opener "Wish", so I could finally get a good look at the band. Some skinheads in front of me and my friends managed to make the pit pretty violent. :indiff:
I escaped to the side after that, but later on my female friend ended up on the floor under a bunch of people. Some other guy ended up on the floor and his leg was injured by people trampling on it. As usual, there are some fuckwits with no idea of Pit Ettiquette.
Other than that is was another excellent show, including such hijinks as Trent appearing to try to push the guitarist off stage.

As soon as Wish started these skinheads immediately started shoving people hard, without any consideration for hurting people. They were about my age (thirties), so should really have known better.
According to my female friend, who was in the thick of it, there were some sensible people who were helping her and others up. When they tried to get the injured bloke up they couldn't do it quickly because of the people who wouldn't get off his leg.

I'm hoping all NINnies have downloaded/aquired 10000 Homo DJs "Psychonaut" as it features a young Trent on vocals.

THat's the first time I come in this board. I just wanted to tell you that I like Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor is, for me, a very good singer and musician. It's a friend to me who known me NIN and I don't regret! I like the song "Hurt" it's so beautiful!!

It is rather costly, so I doubt I'll bother. The more expensive verision with the priority ticket malarky is probably only of use to people in the US. And I've already heard grumblings that the priority ticket stuff doesn't really work as people hoped.

I thought of joining too but then again, it appears to mostly benefit people who live in the U.S...

Well. I would...if you sent me all the albums. Right now I'm stuck with just a few songs, listening to them obsessively. Which means I'm really getting into them, because it was exactly like that with Myooz, I kept listening to Hysteria before a friend sent me the albums and hullabaloo. I'm asking around though, I mean, surely someone has some NIN in this godforsaken place. :( It's funny, I was all scandalized when I listened to DS a few years ago. I was like..."He wants to fuck someone like an animal? EEEWWWWW :'( "
Gargh I want to see these live again.

I'm sure there was some NIN stuff in tonight's episode of CSI on Channel 5. There is no escape.
I need the video collection DVD. Sort it out, Trent. :(

Which bit? Lady Heather seems pretty good at investagating stuff herself, so found where the guy who murdered her daughter lived, kidnapped him and gave him a sound bull whipping, as is her speciality. He had come back from army duty rather disturbed, killed his twin brother who worked for the drug firm and impersonated him, thus giving him access to victims for his naziesque experiments.

Oh, they could have just done an epilogue that explained all that. :stunned:

It was the innocent brother who they found dead and frozen. It's a shame Grissom and Lady Heather fell out the last time she was in the show, as they could have made a good couple.
Hmm don't usually watch it. She can give me a good whipping though. :D

Omg I just noticed that the Perfect Drug video features Klimt's Kiss. Well, the lower right-hand corner of it.
:D  I love that video even more now.
