They recorded one of the LA gigs apparently. Good times. Also in other news. Alessandro Cortini has briefly joined Muse. :D

So... only 2 more shows left?
Tonight is the final show V3 (after Asia being the original stop, and then Echoplex being the second, but somehow they're finishing at the Wiltern!). There are fans trying to see if they webcast the entire show.

TDEP's been joining them on Wish for some time now... since February, I think. I'm just surprised/jealous that they got Greg and Ben for Mr. Self Destruct. One of my top favourite NIN songs + the two leaders of one of my other fave bands = ...I don't know...

That bites. I think they honestly pull off a pretty flawless show, really consistent and entertaining. Reznor doesn't really engage with the crowd yet maintains their attention like only great frontmen do.
I had the pleasure of seeing one of their final shows a few weeks ago. Even ill, Reznor did a fantastic job as did the rest of the band. I'm gonna miss it. Only saw them about 4 or 5 times live.
Think there's gonna be a revival down the line? I hope so. Less FML's, that said.
The show at the O2 was possibly the best live show I've seen all year. When you consider that I've seen Radiohead this year, that is saying something.

What really made me feel gutted was that Trent completely ignored the capitals in Denmark and Sweden, only touring there for festivals.
I mean paying around about £120 to see a band play in Arvika Festival or Roskilde Festival just to see one band is ridiculous. Okay so Arvika had Korn and Depeche Mode, Roskilde also had Slipknot. But still.
I felt even more gutted when I read numerous reviews of NIN's Roskilde performance where it got astronomous praise.
I kinda found that ironic since it was the only tweet he had made of a performance beforehand when he described it as "weird" to perform 1 AM, never tweeting back about it the gig unlike alot of other gigs.

The most accessible album by NiN is 'With Teeth'. If you can't get into that then all hope is lost.
Clunge

I don't find With Teeth accessible at all, with the exception of The Hand That Feeds and Only.
Pretty Hate Machine and The Slip are far far far more accessible if you ask me.

Check out the Seeds (http://www.ninwiki.com/Category:Seeds).
As for albums, The Slip is probably the most accessible NIN album. It's free and is pretty much modern NIN in a nutshell. The Fragile is probably the least accessible for newcomers.
1. The Slip
2. With Teeth
3. Year Zero
4. Pretty Hate Machine
5. Broken
6. The Downward Spiral
7. The Fragile
Not including Ghosts I-IV as I just see that as a vintage collection of mental wallpaper.
I'd start with The Downward Spiral myself, but different strokes and all. If you don't like Downward Spiral, you probably won't get NIN.

Year Zero is alot more modern now in the age of Electronic music and some songs have With Teeth influences such as Beginning of The End, Survivalism and Capital G. I'd say it's a bit more accessible than Pretty Hate Machine since Synth Pop is very rare today and was mostly dominant back in the 80's. Broken is most comparable to The Downward Spiral which is extremely anti-mainstream along with The Fragile.
There are still elements of Year Zero that aren't entry-level NIN. It's a brilliant album but not for newbies.
boomeraangsquad

I thought Year Zero was the toughest NIN album to get into. I wouldn't suggest it for newcomers. Hell, I think it was the last of the main NIN albums I ended up listening to. Like Max said, it is a brilliant album but not for newbies.
I would start with With Teeth. It is a pretty basic album. Not too hard to get into and if you enjoy it then there is no doubt you will enjoy the other ones. Pretty Hate Machine is a good one to start with as well. As is Broken.

I found The Downward Spiral really accessible, with songs like Piggy, March of the Pigs, Closer and Hurt
But in general, beginners should just listen to their famous songs before albums, that's what I did.
GorkerMorker

The Fragile is actually pretty accessible after giving it a proper listen again, lots of well rounded songs.

I agree with The Fragile as well. It was actually the 2nd NIN album I heard (With Teeth was first but I got them both on the same day) and I enjoyed it on first listen. I remembered really liking the left side so I listened some more and it became my favorite 2 months later.

It's a shame no official recording was sorted out for the LITS tour, it was an interesting idea to allow HD recordings at certain gigs, it still cracks me up seeing people in the mosh pit with high end video equipment bopping up and down in the crowds.
The collaborative efforts of fixed cameras and fan footage in the Gift was a pleasant suprise. Some of the fan projects that have been coming and gone have been very good, the one that thisoneisonus have been working on is probably the most looked forward to.
I am somewhat sad we never got to see the full production tour over here in Europe, but on the plus side we got a hell of a gig of one foccused band and an epic setlist at the O2 London.
I'm sure Trent will carry on under the NIN stage name i the studio, whether we will ever see him on stage again with fantastic musicians is another matter, maybe one day if he still has the desire.

Ha, true.
I torrented it awhile ago, but I was a nuub back then and it was some file format I had never heard of before (.ogg or something?) and I couldn't get it too play on my comp. I eventually deleted it to make some HD space.
And then later I learned it was a file type that you had to burn straight to a DVD and then it'll work on a player.

Damn. The Gift material looks alot better than the people on TOIOU made it out to be. Sure is a bunch of brag.
That looks amazing, especially when you consider the effort it took to work on that. Can't wait to download it.

I have been keeping a close eye on the progress of the making of this. The team who made it have been really surprised how difficult a thing it is to put together if you want to make it look professional and they've ran into a lot of technical trouble in the way. Its been an epic journey for them and I'm sure they are massively relieved to get it done. :)

Happy holidays everyone and thank you for an exceptional year! Sorry I haven't been around much lately, I've been working on not working for a couple of months, which for me is hard work. 2010 has a number of things planned including new material from nine inch nails and something else that isn't nine inch nails. I am in a state of rediscovery and reinvention that feels unfamiliar, unsure and exactly what I need.
In the meantime, here are some miscellaneous performances from 2009.
See you and speak to you soon-

Ruiner, March of the Pigs and Closer are really the most "accessible tracks" on the album that could be listened to outside of the album's context. Most of the other tracks are a part of the greater picture and is meant to be eaten up whole. Hurt, depending on who you ask, may also be another accessible track but it barely says anything about the album, which is why I dont like to consider it a good stand-alone track, but a great addition to the general theme and TDS story.
The Fragile is practically a "The Downward Spiral 2.0", so if you eventually enjoy TDS then go for that one as well. It's alot less accessible and doesnt have many of those tracks that work great on their own but its a fantastic journey.
The most accessible NIN releases though are With Teeth, The Slip and (arguably) Year Zero. Take your pick.

It ain't. There are some accessible tracks like The Beginning Of The End, Survivalism and Capital G but I wouldn't say it's that accessible, at least compared to With Teeth and The Slip.

Am I the only one who doesn't find TDS accessible at all? :erm: It took quite a while to get into. It is a brilliant album but I'd consider it the least accessible along with Year Zero.
For NIN n00bs, I would suggest Pretty Hate Machine and With Teeth as the first two. Broken is also a good starter album.

It took me ages to get into TDS, even now im not too keen on it as a whole. The Slip is by far the most accessible or Pretty Hate Machine.

The first songs I heard by them were Mr Selfdestruct, March of the Pigs, Closer and Hurt. Therefore I got into it first. Not sure if it's the most accessible, but it's definitely easier than the Fragile, and those are their two best albums by general consensus.
The Downward Spiral was my first NIN experience and I was hooked straight away. So many twists and turns that I just couldn't resist.

lol This is funny because The Fragile was my first NIN album (along with With Teeth) and I liked it straight away. Sure it was lot to digest, but I enjoyed the sound and wanted to listen to more and more of it. The Downward Spiral I got much later and the first listen (as well as the next few) honestly put me off and it wasn't until after a few months that I began to really like it. It's even been growing on me a lot as of recently. Perhaps it is because I was more familiar with the overall sound of The Fragile. TDS was like something I'd never heard before.
They are both by far NIN's best albums though. I love them a whole lot.

YZ and The Slip are way too distant for my liking. They aren't bad, just not nearly as good imo... Not as passionate and driven as the older albums are and they definitely lack 'something'. Here's to hoping the next album is much more focused. Although, regardless, I am still very excited for new material to come.

It really depends on your taste as to where to start, I tend to like the slower, softer side of NIN. So I would probably suggest
Lights In The Sky
Right Where It Belongs
Something I can Never Have
La Mer
The Day The World Went Away
Into The Void
Just Like You Imagined
The Good Soldier
In This Twilight
Even Deeper
The Fragile
I Do Not Want This
The Great Below
