In addition to the Soundwave festival that I got my ticket to NIN have just announced their own show in Sydney on 24 Feb!
I hope to get my ticket next week. That should make it two NIN gigs within three days!

Hello, NIN n00b here. Which album would you recommend for a Perfect Drug fan?
The Downward Spiral.
By the way, if you go onto the NIN remix site (http://remix.nin.com/member/mofoboy25), someone's put up some more rehearsal tracks. The closest you'll get to studio quality live versions of Sin and Terrible Lie!

I'm digging "Home". It's so sweet song
But yeah, my mum hates NIN cuz their depressing. And really, all of their songs are made up of one or more of these:
*anger
*depression
*sadness
*teenage 'vs everything' anger
*fear
*regret
*hate
*hopelessness
*upsetting experience (incl. sexual)
I think every single song is applicable to one or more of these things. Except maybe Discipline, Echoplex, Adrift and at Peace, Get Down Make Love and maybe Closer (:erm:), amirite?
Dead Souls sounds nice too, if not for the dark lyrics. Oh and Capital G.
They just don't have positive songs, but that doesn't stop me from loving Trent. <3

That's the most angst ridden song he ever did, both vocally and musically. Really beautiful. Then again, it's Joy Division, can't expect much else
My mum thinks Nine Inch Nails are at least four different bands. Play "Everything where it belongs" 'yeah I like this band' followed by "march of the pigs" 'that's awful, put that other band on again'. And that for a Bowie fan...

I'm so glad I got to see them on the Lights in the Sky Tour. It's the only concert I can think of where I didn't want to be close to the stage so I could see the full visuals, I usually care less about them. We saw NIN on Nov 3rd, right before the election, so Trent was in a good mood. lol I was looking forward to the DVD, I hate that fell through.

Just in case your not aware theres a bit of a serious fan project going on right now in the NIN forums. NIN released from 3 different gigs about 400GB's worth or raw uneditied HD footage from the fans cameras. Some of the videos coming together are amazing multicam HD edited videos, perhaps some sort of 720p torrent will appear.

I think it looks like Trent producing a new Jane's Addiction album and rehearsals. No new NIN album...yet.Yeah, NIN is going on a break. But it seems they might even TOUR with Jane's Addiction, which is the best thing ever.
Yeah, NIN is going on a break.
True.
This from NIN.com:
Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane's Addiction (http://www.janesaddiction.com/). These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.
Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.
Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.
In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope. Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.
Trent

A. They're planning to tour this year fairly extensively (US and Europe inc.)
B. His exact words were to make NIN 'disappear for a while' - that's hardly the end, is it?
C. Trent is waaaaay to much of a workaholic to give it all up.
NIN will be back.

Yeah saw that on their website. Went to that show. Played for fifty minutes and had to stop because of power failure. Came back on and played almost full set. Weren't able to do encore as it was about 11:40pm when they went off due to the unplanned forty minute stoppage.:(
Set was similar to the Soundwave one. There was a good cross section of songs IMHO.
But lol, they are doing a stripped-down setlist. They are four men in a band now. They are a plain rock band atm live. So they are not so eager with YZ songs.

Meet Your Master
Survivalism
The Good Soldier
The Beginning Of The End
Four out of twenty-seven is that bad recognition of an album when you have twenty years' worth of material to draw from. Also, there is plenty of straight up rock stuff from YZ they could perform - Vessel, Capital G and The Warning would fit in there nicely.
I really am desperate for them to hit the UK this year, I can't believe I still haven't seen them and the thought of them doing a full-on, sweaty, rock show is making me salivate.

The only real place they could play is second on Sunday to radiohead, which is where they were 2 years ago, so I can't see it happening, especially considering that they are probably playing Sonisphere.

I've just realised something. As much as I love everything NIN have put out, I've always felt that everything post TDS lacks a certain something and I reckon it's just pure sleaze and anger.
- Down In It
- Sin

- Burn
- Piggy
- Wish
They all have buckets of emotion that seem to be lacking from NIN's more recent output. Down In It is so so so good.

There are a lot of people very excited about Jane's Addiction getting back together. They are a much-loved and respected band, and were pretty big in the 90s. It might make tickets even more tricky to get hold of than the average NIN gig.

I'm a bit disappointed with Trent over that all of his tours recently, including Lights In The Sky have been America only, with the exception of Australia. Sure he's probably gonna come down to Europe this year eventually, but its a bit sad that the people here got to miss out on the amazing Lights In The Sky spectacle and the beautiful light shows present. It's gonna be nice to see the more classic, old-school NIN when they come down here, the more raw performances as he said. Still a shame. Oh well, they're still on tour at least, which is good. I'll have to relieve Another Version Of The Truth once it comes out and see how it was there through DVD instead.
Hoping for a europe-tour soon, it's a shame seeing him go on a hiatus after that. I hoped to see Year Zero 2 sometime soon.

Rumour is that Sonisphere are getting all bands to sign an exclusivity agreement, but the exact details are unclear. Some sources say it prohibits them from playing any other festival in England or UK, others say it prohibits them playing a tour for the rest of the year. I dunno, but Bullet for my Valentine ended up cancelling a pre-existing show around the time they signed for Sonisphere. It is surely ridiculous if the agreement stops bands from playing their own tour?

Okay guys, think i can enlighten you all on the happennings of Nine Inch Nails and jane's Addiction on the UK festival scene in 2009:
Sonisphere, Knebworth - Nine Inch Nails will be alone in this for the first time, as in there will be NO Jane's Addiction at the show. This will be NIN's only show on the NIN/JA tour without JA except the one(s) already stated. Nine Inch Nails will play under Metallica on Sunday 2nd August. Nine Inch Nails are NOT an exclusive UK appearence at Sonisphere, Knebworth.
Download, Donington - Nine Inch Nails nor Jane's Addiction will appear at this festival.
Reading & Leeds - Nine Inch Nails are expected to play on Sunday 30th August at Reading and Friday 28th August in Leeds under headliners Radiohead, and with Jane's Addiction below them. As yet this has not been confirmed but may be on Monday 30th March.
T In The Park, Scotland - Both Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction have confirmed their appearence at this festival. This festival now is completely SOLD OUT.
Oxegen, Rep. Ireland - Both Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction have confrimed their appearence at this festival. Tickets are still available through www.ticketmaster.ie

"twent wenzor"? seriously twitter? what's even worse is his name didn't even show up in the 4 or so results that I got....I didn't know that twitter's search engine was run by a 3 year old with a speech impediment...

What's this about it being the last NIN tour?
Me and my friend were talking about festivals and he mentioned about how you have to go to sonisphere as its part of the last tour NIN will ever do.
I don't believe this, just need confirmation.

It's been loads of hassle here, lots of talk about how "NIN might do their last ever gig in Sweden on July 2nd"....but as I understood it they're just taking a break from touring? And there's always a possibility that a band stops touring.

You are seriously out of the loop - Trent posted on NIN.com that NIN would be 'disappearing' for a good while. Look back a few pages and you'll find the quote.

I am so jealous of anyone seeing the nin/ja/street sweeper show :( Read that NIN are playing in Singapore, so i'm hoping Trent loves Australia so much he comes again haha.

both the songs, not so pretty now and non entity are old songs and have been around a while, i think theyre are b sides from the with teeth era if i remember correctly, but my memory sucks. ho hum
it seems non entity was written about 9/11 (quite topical, at least), so i dont think its fragile era (that being 2001 anyway).

They were both recorded from the With Teeth sessions but didn't even make the cut as a b-side, hence both of them being 'outtakes'.

Yup, ditto to that.
Not sure this is the way I'd want to see them/see them go out...
O2 Arena is not the world's worst venue. Earls Court is far worse - a dog's dinner of a venue.

They should've just done a couple of nights at Brixton. Sigh.
My mate Dave still won't see NIN live, even though they've been his favourite band since he was like 14. He doesn't want the liveness to be disappointing and ruin them for him, haha.

I thought the O2 was great when I saw the Foos there. The only downer for me was the huge tube journey to get all the way to East London.
I'm not disappointed at the prospect of a NIN gig there, though a couple of nights at Brixton Academy would have been more convenient.

I like it because you can get a decent view of the stage from most seats, and the sound is good.
It gets bloody freezing in the foyer in winter though.

DUDE, I dunno whether to sit or stand. If I sit I can probably see better and get some decent photos, but it I stand I can dance (but probably see nowt because the law of gigging is that a brick shithouse always stands right in front of me just before the band come on). Boo-urns.
I'm surprised I didn't get an email about this gig seeing as I'm on the mailing list, and got all the Ninja stuff etc. :(
I'm going standing, purely because I've never done standing at the O2 and it's not gonna be an 'art show' like Lights In The Sky. If they add another date I may do seating.
