Yeah, I think part 2 of The Great Destroyer is one of the best musical achievements ever imho. Although I have nothing bad to say about YZ, there's still something about the album I don't like. Maybe it's just my excessive love for The Fragile. Year Zero is pretty good yeah but maybe it's a bit too.. I KNOW! it's the lack of emotion that I don't like about YZ. Yeah. That. The album is all like digital and computerized and it lacks some humanity. But it is very, very good album tho.

I think the lyrics are pretty emotion provoking myself. Yeh, I was wondering how the heck they play any of it live!
I like The Fragile but there are a lot of skippable tracks for me. I love No You Don't, its just awesome. Also Somewhat Damaged, Into The Void, The Big Comedown. But a lot of the tracks I find myself wondering when they are going to end.

Year Zero has emotion. But it's more of a message that if we don't change the current situation now, then future will be bleak.
The Fragile is more of a personal emotion about the struggles of one person. I think a person can relate to that more.
As for NIN headlining Reading, I can't see it but it would be awesome if they did. I work Reading every year and we only know the line up a week in advance of the official press release.

NIN are bringing out a 'tap tap revenge' for iphones and touch's with songs from the slip and ghosts 1 - 14
if youve seen an advert for any iphones/touch's recently, tap tap revenge, is like the guitar heroe esque game it shows as one of the applications!

PHM is plain shit, Depeche Mode could have done it better, minus first 2 songs.
Broken is just an introduction to something more.
TDS is very good and deep but way too overrated.
TF is Trent at his best, pure genius and perfection.
With Teeth is what actually any band with guitars, bass, drums, keys and vocals can do.
Year Zero - another superb storyline, but 25% of the tracks are boring IMO.
The Slip is okay.
in your (very limited) opinion. so many things wrong with this i don't even know where to start. but i'll try to keep it short and sweet.
first- while not everything on with teeth is showstopping, if you think just any band can write songs like beside you in time and right where it belongs (just a couple key examples), you're not only grossly exaggerating... you're daft. and do let me know when your band produces something as good.
second- how many times have you seen NIN live? most people who have seen them even just once or twice come to find a new appreciation for a lot of the newer songs live that they didn't have before having only heard them on the records. ie: love is not enough, only, vessel, me i'm not, the greater good, god given, 1000000, letting you, head down, etc.
finally- while pretty hate machine may not be up your alley, calling it shit is pretty hilarious. is it influenced by depeche mode? clearly. but you just described a massive amount of music that has been and is yet to be produced globally. phm, however, was something most people in the know would call "genre-defining" and was the origin of the "industrial" tag that so many people affixed to trent's work that he disagreed with so strongly, then and now.
what it all boils down to is that you're just some kid with an opinion. opinions can be very, very wrong, though ;)

1. Okay, the last two tracks are something different. But all that Love is not enough, Getting Smaller, The Line begins to Blur etc. makes them sound like a cheap band for teenagers. Trent has done TDS and TF, after all.
2. None yet. I've seen videos though, lots of videos. Enough of them to tell what songs kick arse live and what sucks. Love Is Not Enough is not a kick arse live song, for example. Somewhat Damaged is.

Dude, that album is so eighties. That's so goddamn OLD. That's like talking about Beethoven. They should have skipped that stage and start off with Broken + Terrible Lie, SICNH and Sin.

And just for the record, PHM is old, sounds 80's and is cheesy. But without it Trent would never have gone on to write some the the most ground breaking and brilliant songs ever written. Everyone has to start somewhere.
Plus Sin is on it. So it automatically makes it genius. :p

Well I could agree with you on your points that it's a poorly produced album, but calling it shit? Oh no, that just will not do! Sure it's Trent's first piece of work, and yeah, it's totally 80's, but it paved the way for the remastering of classic tracks, such as: Something I Can Never Have, The Only Time, & Head Like A Hole. This album isn't the best NIN piece of work, but it sure isn't the worst.

Sorry guys, but I think it is shit and is one of the rare albums I regret buying. Yeah, it does have some good tracks, but even they need to be heard live to appreciate them. As an album, it is just so damn weak. It's a vital part of NIN history, but that doesn't change the bad sides of it one bit!

Hmm, I don't think so. I think it sounds pretty awesome condidering it was recorded 14 years ago. But NIN are one of those bands that make you think 'was that a mistake or was it supposed to be there?' Like in Discipline, Trent seems to come in too early with his vocals a couple of times and stop. Theres loads of things like that.

South America, thank you very much! We had a great time performing for you and hanging out in your neck of the woods. I promise we'll be back before long and again I apologize for the cancellations (those were OUR fault and not the promoter's).
On another note, Josh Freese fans be sure to check out a show on the upcoming North American leg of the tour, as sadly they will be the last ones he's playing with us. He informed me he's leaving the tour at the end of this year. Yes, we are still dear friends. No, I'm not sure what we are going to do.

I can't do a top 10. It all depends what mood I'm in.
As for a funeral song, predicatable but Hurt would be an awesome choice.
My list would be the following though....
Hurt
Right Where It Belongs
Adrift And At Peace
The Persistance Of Loss
Leaving Hope
Gone Still
Zero Sum
La Mer
The Great Below
The Day The Whole World Went Away (live version)
A Warm Place
The Downward Spiral
Any of those would be good for a funeral...Wow, thats quite depressing...

Tune! I think NIN have a few songs the equivalent of "creep". But if it gets people into the better NIN songs it's all good.
I think the Smashing Pumpkins headlined due to them recently headlining Rock Am Ring and releasing a new album a month before the festival.

As for Vrenna I think he's playing keyboards now instead of Pogo. :stunned:

Probably as Manson are in the studio recording their new album. But I heard he will be playing keyboards. Or he did when they played with Wes on guitar.

Incidentally I only got American McGee's Alice because he did the musics and that. But it's actually a really good game imo.

The stuff he did for Doom 3 was poo though. The first thing I do when I install that game anywhere is to download the Trent Reznor sound pack.

I can't. I'd have to skip a final exam and take an incomplete grade until I made it up next quarter at uni...too much hassle. And my friend never told for sure if she could go, so...:(
I saw NIN back in 2006, and it was epic. So maybe if they do Lolla next year, I can go see them. Dunno when they'll be back in Ohio. I won tickets, too...*sigh*

This tour is getting really good reviews as a great live show!

New drummer is the Lostprophets drummer.
With great pride and excitement I announce the addition of Ilan Rubin to the lineup beginning next year. I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away - the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year.
Stay tuned for some 2009 tour announcements soon.

Ahh fairs, well I'm sure the drummer will be able to do both. To be honest I'd rather have NIN touring with a decent drummer then Lost Prophets. :p

I am a fan of Lostprophets (as much as I'm loathe to admit it), which is why I'm excited about this: because I've heard him play before and he really is an excellent drummer, even by my standards. But really, this is nothing to do with Lostprophets. The guy is good, and that's all that matters. He's also a powerful creative force and not too shabby at writing songs, as his solo project shows - http://www.myspace.com/thenewregime

I really don't like Lost Prophets so I have no idea what sort of drummer he is. To follow the likes of Vrenna, Dillon and Freeze he's got to be good though. Looks like Trent head-hunted him.
No Jerome though. :(

File this one under lost opportunities.
I'm very proud of the show we've put together for this tour and have been working hard the last few months to find a way to capture it. I had an amazing situation lined up that would have allowed me to film the show in 3D with James Cameron's team for a theatrical release as well as DVD / BluRay, etc. We had an extra date added to the tour that we were going to give away all the tickets for and have a filming party / thank you show.
I made two critical mistakes. One was to approach a certain record company that owns some of the song rights about producing / funding. The second was to allow said company to fuck around as usual for months before saying um... no. We then achieved the impossible by finding alternate production / funding but the timetable is too rushed to get it filmed comfortably with the remaining time left on the tour. This tour and a lot of the personnel involved finish at the end of this leg, so we can't push filming into Jan / Feb.
Deep breath...
This was an amazing tour and production - certainly the best thing I've ever been involved with and likely the final tour for NIN on this scale. Thank you to those who came out to see it and forgive me for having a Kanye West moment, but this was FOR SURE the best show of the year and any bullshit end-of-the-year poll you may read in the next few weeks that says otherwise simply has it wrong. Those of you who saw it know I'm right.
The shows we have announced in 2009 and any more that may be announced will be a completely different approach with some different personnel and will likely be the last for the foreseeable future.
** UPDATE **
The venue for Friday night's performance in Victoria will have a very relaxed camera / camcorder policy... hmmn...
The result (one example) of that relaxed camera policy..... :)
I really really want this tour no matter what size to come to UK, I missed them on Year Zero tour and really regret it. :(

I'm still debating internally whehter to go and see NIN at a festival in Sydney Feb 2009. They're headlining and many metal/hardcore bands are also on. Alice In Chains, Underoath and Dillinger Escape Plan (I heard they're quite good too)
The festival is called Soundwave. Has anyone see the latest NIN show(s)? Is it worth seeing? (tickets are $130 Australian)
I've been a fan since 1996 and only saw them at a festival in January 2000 where they did a relatively short set. For some reason I missed their last two Oz tours in 2005 and 2006.
Anyway any feedback would be great.:)

I'm going to see NIN tomorrow night! Can't wait! :D
It's funny, you can tell not a lot of cool bands come to Sacramento 'cause the KWOD dj's are going crazy talking about this show and giving away tickets.
If it were San Francisco, it would just be another day, yet another awesome band coming to the city.....
Alessandro Cortini will leave NIN, leaving them to tour as a four-piece next year.
It's been exactly 4 years since i joined Nine Inch Nails and the time has come for me to move onto new things.
I feel a need to explore other paths in music and life which leads me to leave the tour at this stage.
I am grateful of the chance i was given: it doesn't happen every day to be able to work next to some of the most talented people on this planet.
Trent & Co. have been aware of this decision of mine for a while now and are prepared to take the band to the next step.
Thanks to all the fans who welcomed me at the beginning of my journey and supported me through the years: I hope to see you around here or there.
Alessandro

They alluded to that on stage at the show on Friday night. :(
Anyway......amazing show at Arco! The sound was really good in there, too! Thankfully! :D
We took these shite vids (taken with digital photo camera, not proper video camera, made even shittier by the youtube process) but you're welcome to watch them. There's some much better properly shot video by other peeps from this show on youtube already.

The set was amazing......don't know if you all have seen it and I'm not good at describing things so bear with me, but they have three video screens set up right at the front edge of the stage, mid-stage then at the rear and project images so that it looks like they're inside a holographic three-dimensional scene. At one point they had rain on it and it really looked like it was raining on stage! I don't know......I thought it was really cool...:)
Quote of the night from my friend Morgan: "only goth band with a banjo" in reference to brief moment of banjo playing during the ambient interlude in the middle of the show.
